Inherit the Winds Anime Premieres in January 2027

Aniplex revealed a new promotional video for the new Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) original TV anime series, confirming the anime’s January 2027 premiere. The staff also announced that Nichika Ōmori is joining the cast as the cat Kurosuke.

The Inherit the Winds anime will air during the “Agaru Anime” programming block on CBC, TBS, and 26 affiliate networks when it premieres in January 2027.

The cast of Inherit the Winds includes:

  • Daisuke Sakuma (Snow Man member) as Jinsuke Tachikawa
  • Yūki Kaji as Sōji Okita
  • Aoi Yūki as Hyōgo Koganei
  • Kōki Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizō

A four-panel manga adaptation will launch on Star Seas Company’s Twi4 (Tsuiyon) X (formerly Twitter) account in 2026. Matsuri Muramatsu will draw the Inherit the Winds manga.

Yutaka Narui and Aniplex are in charge of the original story with cooperation by Azuki Mashiba. Tomohiro Kawamura directs the anime at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. Narui is writing the scripts, Fumi Ebina is the character designer, and Shigeru Kishida is composing the music.

The story of Inherit the Winds takes place in the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto. A soldier who lost his memories is helped by Shinsengumi member Sōji Okita. Okita names the soldier “Junsuke Tachikawa” and enlists them amongst the Mibu soldiers.

Inherit the Winds was first announced during Aniplex Online Fest 2025, alongside a new teaser trailer for the new feature-length film Rakuen Tsuihō -Expelled from Paradise- Kokoro no Resonance (Heart’s Resonance).

During AnimeJapan2026, the staff of the Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime revealed a new teaser visual for the upcoming second season. Yaiba: Samurai Legend Season 2 will focus on adapting the Kaguya Arc.

Gōshō Aoyama’s hit manga made its debut in September 1988 on Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. The series finished in December 1993 with 24 compiled book volumes.

Season 2 of the TV anime adaptation of Sunsunsun and artist Momoco’s Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian light novel series received a new “ultra” teaser trailer and key visual during AnimeJapan 2026. As previously announced, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Season 2 was delayed until 2027, since more time was needed to further improve the quality of the series.

The first season of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian premiered in April 2024 and aired for 12 episodes. Fans can watch the anime in English or Japanese on Crunchyroll. Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Season 2 will pick up and adapt from the light novel’s fourth volume.

Sumire Uesaka, who voiced Alya, performed the opening theme song “Ichiban Kagayaku Hoshi” (“The Brightest Star”). The voice actress also performed different covers of popular songs as the ending theme for each episode.

Dandelion Anime Premieres April 16 Worldwide on Netflix

The staff of the anime adaptation of Gintama creator Hideaki Sorachi’s Dandelion one-shot manga have announced the anime’s April 16 premiere, exclusively on Netflix. A new key visual for the Dandelion anime was also revealed.

Seven episodes of the Dandelion anime will be released in total on Netflix.

Kocchi no Kento performs the theme song “Goron to Doron.”

The main cast of the Dandelion anime includes Chikahiro Kobayashi as Tetsuo Tanba and Megumi Han as Misaki Kurogane. 

Daisuke Mataga directs the anime at studio NAZ. Yōsuke Suzuki oversees the series scripts, Ai Asari is the character designer, and Yūki Hayashi is the music composer.

Sorachi’s popular Gintama series began with the manga in 2004 and ran all the way until June 2021, but the Dandelion manga preceded it in 2002 in Weekly Shonen Jump. The original Gintama anime series is streaming with English subs on Crunchyroll. Hulu is also streaming Gintama Seasons 2 and 3 with an English dub. In addition, GINTAMA – Mr. Ginpachi’s Zany Class spinoff anime is now streaming on Crunchyroll. 

Gintama New Film Version: Yoshiwara in Flames opened in theaters on February 13 in Japan. The film adapts the Gintama anime’s Yoshiwara in Flames arc, including episodes 139 through 146. What’s more, the film features newly animated scenes and characters who didn’t originally appear in the arc. 

Now That We Draw Anime Reveals Key Visual

During AnimeJapan 2026, the staff of the upcoming anime adaptation of Kyū Takahata and Yūji Kaba’s Now That We Draw (Kakunaru Ue wa) manga series revealed the key visual.

The main cast members includes Ayumu Murase as Yūki Uehara and Sayumi Suzushiro as Niina Miyamoto.

Shunsuke Ishikawa directs the Now That We Draw anime at ROLL2, Deko Akao supervises the series scripts, and Hiromi Nakagawa is the character designer. Infinite is producing the anime series.

The manga was launched in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine in 2023. Thus far, Hakusensha published five volumes to date. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga in English.

TOMYTEC is credited for the original work on the Tetsuryō! meet with Tetsudō Musume in anime collaboration with I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level novel writer Kisetsu Morita. Misuzu Hoshino (Laid-Back Camp, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!, The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious) is directing the anime at East Fish Studio. Aya Satsuki (Solo Camping for Two, “Ippon” Again!, Too Cute Crisis) oversees and writes the series scripts, and Hisanori Hashimoto (Laid-Back Camp Season 3) is the character designer.

The original anime series focuses on the four train-loving college students who are members of the Tetsudō Ryokō Dōkō-kai (Railway Travel Club), or Tetsuryō! for short. They go on a journey together throughout the world where hundreds of Tetsudō Musume work.

Tetsudō Musume characters “work” in railway companies and railway-related businesses all over Japan with real uniforms and work clothes. There are 114 Tetsudō Musume all over Japan, as of May 2025. Tetsudō Musume celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves DLC Character Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star Launches in June 2026

During AnimeJapan 2026, SNK announced that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 DLC character Kenshiro from the Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- anime will launch in June 2026. Before his reveal for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Kenshiro was previously teased in a cryptic animated teaser. 

In addition, the creditless opening movie for the Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- anime was revealed, featuring opening theme song “Hallelujah” by Alexandros. Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- is getting a double-episode premiere on April 10 at 1:00 a.m. JST (effectively April 11). The third and four episodes of Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- will premiere on April 17, and the anime will be streaming worldwide on Amazon Prime Video.

Previously, SNK released Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 DLC character Blue Mary on March 26. In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Blue Mary hears word of Geese’s legacy and the Sacred Scrolls, compelling her to take action in the King of Fighters, the martial arts tournament being held by the mysterious Stroheim, in Arcade Mode. Players can experience her single-player RPG adventure in Episodes of South Town, which centers on the disappearance of young Markey after a call from SWAT officer and guardian Kevin Rian.

Lastly, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Season Pass 2 is available now for $19.99 and includes Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, and two mystery characters.

The Elusive Samurai Season 2 Reveals New Trailer and Key Visual

During AnimeJapan2026, Aniplex released a new trailer and key visual for the highly anticipated second season of The Elusive Samurai, which airs in July 2026. Aniplex also revealed that the first season will begin a re-run on Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” block nationwide from April 17, every Friday at 11:30 p.m. JST.

Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- Anime Reveals Opening Movie

Warner Bros. Japan has released the creditless opening movie for the Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- anime, which is getting a double-episode premiere on April 10 at 1:00 a.m. JST (effectively April 11). The opening movie of Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star- features the opening theme song “Hallelujah” by Alexandros.

NIA Animation and Kishida Studio BACU are working on the production.

Buronson and Tetsuo Hara’s original Fist of the North Star manga was serialized from 1983 to 1988 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. In 1984, a TV anime adaptation began and popularized the franchise.

During AnimeJapan 2026, the staff of the anime adaptation of Yūshi Ukai and Nekometal’s SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table light novel series confirmed that a new theatrical anime, subtitled 44:CLOUDY BEACH, will open on July 10 in theaters in Japan. The 44:CLOUDY BEACH anime sees Yuki take part in a “Cloudy Beach” game, continuing the death game shenanigans from SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. The anime will only be screening for two weeks.

SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table is streaming on Crunchyroll with English subtitles and an English dub. Netflix is also streaming the anime. 

LIN from MADKID performs the opening theme song “¬Ersterbend” (Not Ersterbend).” Chiai Fujikawa performs the ending theme song “Inori (Prayer).” Fujikawa wrote the lyrics of the ending theme song, and the song was composed and arranged by Seima Kondō from Elements Garden.
