Echoes of the Flame Announced, Releases in Late 2026

Japanese developer Konno Tobari has revealed Echoes of the Flame, a new 2.5D RPG which will release between November and December 2026. The game boasts a story focus spread across two protagonists and turn-based combat.

Echoes of the Flame will be available on PC through Steam and was developed using RPG Developer Bakin. Konno Tobari will both develop and publish the game, which is available to wishlist now. English and Traditional Chinese language support for the game is not expected until 2027.

The Steam store page describes it thusly:

Two Journeys, Guided by Fire

In a world where the cycle of souls exists, “Flame Wardens” are sworn to protect it.

Haku, a Flame Warden from a town at the western edge, journeys toward the heart of the land—the sacred peak of Coral—to fulfill his duty, joined by his demi-human best friend Kaji and Mikoto, an enigmatic former mafia member.

From a town at the eastern edge, Ren, another Flame Warden, sets out for the sacred peak of Coral, joined by his childhood friend Maruka and a mysterious elder named Rakan.

Two journeys, unfolding through alternating perspectives. What awaits them at journey’s end?

Unlock Hidden Truths with “Key Words”

Discover “Key Words” throughout your journey. Present them to the right people to unlock the world’s hidden lore. Which words will you choose—and to whom? Rely on your intuition and reasoning to piece together the story.

Strategic Combat Shaped by Flexible Builds and “Shields”

A turn-based command battle system enhanced with unique strategic elements. No random encounters—every battle is a carefully crafted tactical challenge.

    • “Shields” That Dictate the Flow of Battle: Every combatant has a “Shield” that reduces incoming HP damage. At the start of battle, focus on wearing down enemy shields, then shift to damaging HP as the situation evolves. The choice—wear down their shields or strike at their HP—can turn the tide of battle.

    • Flexible Ability Builds: Traditional leveling has been replaced with a system where you allocate “Combat Points” earned through story progression. Customize your characters by assigning Combat Points to active skills, passive abilities, and stat boosts to suit your strategy.

    • Status Effects and Gear Customization: When enabled by gear, status buildup accumulates with each attack, eventually triggering status effects in a Soulslike-inspired system. It can become a powerful advantage even against formidable foes. Slot “Spirit Stones” into your weapons and armor to create highly personalized gear—such as builds focused on shield-breaking or inflicting status effects.

(An “Easy Mode” is also planned for players who prefer to focus on the story and exploration.)

Estimated Playtime: 10–15 hours (may vary depending on playstyle and exploration)
