SEGA Advertises Writer Role for Next Sonic Game

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 Delisting Soon on Mobile Devices

SEGA has put out a call for a scenario writer to work within Sonic Team for the next mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game. The job is based in SEGA’s Tokyo “Grand Harbor” HQ and pays an monthly salary of 315,000 – 700,000 yen ($1,978 – 4,400).

SEGA is searching for a full-time employee, the posting putting a large emphasis on communication skills. The role requires working with people across the game development process, from directors to audio engineers. It expects at least three years of experience, as well as a Level 1 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for non-natives. Experience and the ability to work within a game development framework are necessary. SEGA also made sure to include the most important qualification: a love for Sonic. The last mainline Sonic game was Sonic X Shadow Generations in 2024. It featured an all new campaign putting Shadow at the forefront alongside a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations. It is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

More recently, Sonic Racing Crossworlds, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, has been keeping the franchise in the limelight. Initially, it released in 2025 and, since then, it has received plenty of DLC in the form of crossovers. This has ranged from Minecraft to Mega Man to other SEGA franchises. Lastly, the fourth Sonic movie has recently wrapped filming, giving fans a cinematic experience to look forward to along with the games that Sonic Team and SEGA are working on.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Seasonal Update to Add Sephiroth

Square Enix has announced that a new update for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will launch on May 26 to start the game’s next season and introduce Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth (VA: Toshiyuki Morikawa) as a playable character. Sephiroth will be unlockable for free as a Season Reward, and Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy players can also obtain Sealed Crystals to unlock his UR and SR abilities.

 

A roadmap for future content coming to Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy was also revealed. A new character, stage and boss from Final Fantasy X will be introduced in June, followed by a new character from Final Fantasy VI in July and a new character, stage, and boss from Final Fantasy V in August.

The current season of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, “Warriors Assemble,” will end on May 26 at 3:59 (UTC). This season saw Rikku (VA: Marika Matsumoto) from Final Fantasy X. Rikku and Clive Rosfield (VA: Yuuya Uchida) from Final Fantasy XVI make their playable debuts.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is now available for Android via Google Play Store and iOS via App Store. Ahead of launch, Final Weapon had the opportunity to play Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy for a preview to get a feel of the combat system, base roster of playable characters, the seasonal story, and so much more. In addition, a PC version of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is being considered by the development team.

The Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy original soundtrack is out now on Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other music distribution services. Featuring original tracks and arranged fan-favorites, the original soundtrack of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy was composed by Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI sound team member Takafumi Imamura.

Kagami Games has announced that CIRCUS-developed visual novel Template!! An Angel’s Gift will release on June 26 on PC via Steam. Template!! An Angel’s Gift will feature English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language options at launch. 

CIRCUS originally released the visual novel on PC in 2018 in Japan, and Kagami Games are localizing the title for release outside Japan for the first time. The game’s opening theme song is “THIS IS TEMPLATE!” by yozuca*, and the second opening theme song is “Oyakusoku→Happy End!” by Rin’ca. Late composer Shigeru Ikeda wrote the lyrics for Rin’ca’s song under the pseudonym lotta. Ikeda passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2026.

Gameplay Group International and PM Studios released a new trailer for fighting game Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game highlighting playable character Azula. The latest trailer for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game describes Azula: “True power, the divine right to rule, is something she was born with. Azula’s unraveling psyche and duality turns into her greatest strength, from poise and precision to mellifluous madness. Unlike a certain exiled prince, she settles for nothing less than perfection.”

Take-Two Plans to Release Several Sequels, Remakes, and Remasters in the Next Few Years

In a new earnings report, Take-Two revealed plans to release 8 sequels and 7 remasters, remakes, or ports in the coming years. The identity of these games are currently unknown. 

Take-Two hosts several developers and franchises under its banner. This includes 2K and Rockstar Games, who’ve collectively worked on the Red DeadBorderlandsCivilizationBioshock, MafiaWWE 2KNBA 2K, and of course, Grand Theft Auto series, among others. It also includes Max Payne, which have remakes of the first two entries in development. Fans are already beginning to speculate that these plans could include a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo Switch 2, the next entry in the Bioshock series, a remastered version of Max Payne 3, and more. 

In the meantime, the next major game from Take-Two, Grand Theft Auto VI, is set to release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A recent press release, according to IGN, reads, “Our execution throughout Fiscal 2026 has been extraordinary and we are highly confident as we approach Fiscal 2027 – which promises to be groundbreaking for Take-Two and the entire entertainment industry – led by the November 19th release of Grand Theft Auto VI with Rockstar’s launch marketing set to begin this Summer.”

Previously, Rockstar Games delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI from fall 2025 May 26, 2026, before being once more delayed to November 19, 2026. Grand Theft Auto VI was delayed for additional development time to polish the game, according to the statement released by Rockstar Games. Now, if recent statements are anything to go by, it appears that the game will finally release in late 2026. More details about Rockstar and Take-Two’s future will likely be unveiled at a later date.

Riot Games has announced that it will release the next character for 2XKO, Senna, on June 9. Additionally, the first gameplay trailer for the character will release on June 2. 

Since release, two characters have been added to 2XKO: Caitlyn and Akali. In a previously released roadmap, Riot Games announced that three more champions will be available throughout the year. Future updates will add local duos, spirit blossom skins, a spirit blossom event, a new fuse, season 2 + a rank reset, a duo finder, a Blood Moon stage, a new summer event, new skins, and a new stage. During the Rocket League Championship Series 2026: Paris Major event, Psyonix showcased a new version of the game running on Unreal Engine 6. This marks the first reveal and look at how the successor to Unreal Engine 5 will look. 

The trailer showcases the new look and style of Unreal Engine 6 in Rocket League, revealing more reflections, improved lighting, more realistic models, and more. It also hints at a collective hub that will feature FortniteRocket LeagueLEGO Fortnite, the previously announced Disney Fortnite collaboration, and more in one place. Currently, little details about the release date of either Unreal Engine 6 and the new version of Rocket League are known, but more information will likely surface soon. Rocket League initially came out in 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. The game would later release on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Rocket League sees players take control of cars playing a game reminiscent to soccer. Over the years, the game has collaborated with Ratchet and Clank, James Bond, X-Men ’97, and several car companies.

Star Detective Precure! and Detective Conan Anime Collaboration Announced

The staff behind the Precure franchise has announced that Star Detective Precure! and Detective Conan will crossover in upcoming episodes of both shows. The Star Detective Precure! episode will air May 31, with Detective Conan‘s episode coming out June 6.

This will be the first collaboration between the two franchises. Merchandise commemorating the crossover are also on the way. Episode 18 of Star Detective Precure! is titled “Meitantei no Assemble” (Great Detectives Assemble). It will feature Conan Edogawa helping the Star Detective Precure attempt to track down the Phantom Thieves.

Meanwhile, episode 1203 of Detective Conan is titled “Hanamaru na Answer” (The Hanamaru Answer). It sees Cure Answer join the Junior Detective League to stop a series of jewellery robberies. Yomiuri TV’s Yoshida Takeshi spoke about the collaboration, saying the following (via Mantan Web):

It’s been a year since I met producer Tada Kanako when she told me, ‘Next year’s Precure will be a detective.’ Thinking back to that day, my heart warms. A collaboration between two works from different TV stations, production companies, and original publishers. There is no precedent, and it seemed like an impossible hurdle to overcome, but my conviction that ‘this will be interesting’ came first. …I’ll leave the hard adjustments that followed to your imagination (laughs). By the way, I’ve included a message for Precure after Next Conan’s Hint, so don’t miss it until the very end. I’ll show you a miraculous collaboration!

Star Detective Precure! is produced by Toei Animation and has been airing since February 2026, the latest of twenty-three shows in the Pretty Cure franchise. It is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Detective Conan (or Case Closed) is produced by TMS Entertainment and Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation. It began in January 1996 and has aired 1201 episodes, making it one of the longest-running anime ever. It is also available on Crunchyroll.

Star Fox Will Receive Day 1 Patch Upon Release

Nintendo have announced that the upcoming Star Fox will get an update on day 1 when it launches on June 25. The patch will include core features such as the game’s Battle Mode and GameChat avatars.

Star Fox is a reimagining of Star Fox 64, which seeks to bring the classic game to a new generation with modern presentation and features. The update includes GameChat features, such as AR filters and avatars of the Star Fox characters, allowing players to appear as members of the crew (a USB camera is required). The 4v4 Battle Mode will also come in the day 1 update, allowing for either online multiplayer or offline play against CPUs.

Star Fox is available now to pre-order through the Nintendo eShop for $49.99. It is also available physically for $59.99, both through My Nintendo and retailers. Star Fox will be the first mainline game in the series since Star Fox Zero on the Nintendo Wii U, which also attempted to retell the story of Star Fox 64. On the game’s eShop page, Nintendo describes it as such:

Meiji Tokyo Renka: Twilight Kiss will include English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language options with Japanese voice-overs.
