SEGA has put out a call for a scenario writer to work within Sonic Team for the next mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game. The job is based in SEGA’s Tokyo “Grand Harbor” HQ and pays an monthly salary of 315,000 – 700,000 yen ($1,978 – 4,400).
SEGA is searching for a full-time employee, the posting putting a large emphasis on communication skills. The role requires working with people across the game development process, from directors to audio engineers. It expects at least three years of experience, as well as a Level 1 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for non-natives. Experience and the ability to work within a game development framework are necessary. SEGA also made sure to include the most important qualification: a love for Sonic. The last mainline Sonic game was Sonic X Shadow Generations in 2024. It featured an all new campaign putting Shadow at the forefront alongside a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations. It is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
More recently, Sonic Racing Crossworlds, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, has been keeping the franchise in the limelight. Initially, it released in 2025 and, since then, it has received plenty of DLC in the form of crossovers. This has ranged from Minecraft to Mega Man to other SEGA franchises. Lastly, the fourth Sonic movie has recently wrapped filming, giving fans a cinematic experience to look forward to along with the games that Sonic Team and SEGA are working on.
