Nintendo has updated its eShop listing for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2, which confirms that it will be a free upgrade for owners of the digital version on original Switch. It is likely that the upgrade will not be applicable for physical owners.
The new “publisher notification” states the following: “Already own a digital version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch? Get a digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 for free or pre-order the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection at a discount by January 31, 2027.” Otherwise, the game will cost $29.99 for the Standard Edition, $39.99 for the Deluxe Edition, and $49.99 for the Ultimate Edition. The Nintendo eShop page further outlines what fans can expect from the new release of Minecraft:
