Crazy Taxi Reboot is ‘AAA’ in Scope With Live Service Elements

Big ambitions for the SEGA Super Game initiative.

SEGA’s upcoming Crazy Taxi reboot appears to be a “AAA live service” game in scope, according to a new Japan Times report. This report was corroborated by Midori (@MbKKssTBhz5), a reputable insider source for information regarding SEGA and ATLUS games in development.

In recent weeks, Midori discussed that Persona 2 and Persona 4 remakes are in the works at ATLUS. This came after she corroborated Persona 3 Reload datamines that seemingly confirm The Answer will be DLC, and she also suggested that Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor ReFantazio are planned.

Crazy Taxi Reboot Seemingly Inspired by GTA Online and Fortnite

According to Midori, the Crazy Taxi reboot is modeled after successful live service games like GTA Online and Fortnite. In fact, those two games served as the main inspiration for the SEGA Super Game initiative. SEGA’s plans involve the Crazy Taxi reboot that will operate as a games-as-a-service title and a remake of the original Crazy Taxi. In addition, the reboot will reportedly feature a 100-player survival mode.

Jet Set Radio will receive a reboot alongside Crazy Taxi, as previously reported. Midori notes that the Jet Set Radio reboot contains shooting and open-world elements similar to Fortnite. Players can expect graffiti elements, new characters, and a new story as well.

The Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboots are planned for a 2027 release.Like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio will receive a remake. These two remakes are coming to the next major Nintendo console, which is presumably Nintendo Switch 2.

Several new SEGA trademarks suggest even more revivals are coming in the future, including Alex Kidd and After Burner. Moreover, a recent report suggests new Panzer Dragoon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Sakura Wars games are currently in early stages of development. Two other games have been greenlit as well, but these titles were not specified yet.
