Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising – Top 5 Guest Characters That Should Appear in the Game

You never knew who you can run into in these large skies!

Guest characters in fighting games are always a welcome addition. They bring much excitement to fans and open the door for many other surprising characters to arrive. Plenty of fighting games have guest characters, including the latest Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.

The Granblue Fantasy franchise is no stranger to collaborations, as the mobile game has dozens of characters from different video games and anime. Moreover, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising recently added NieR: Automata‘s 2B to the roster. With a guest character like that entering the fray, there’s no telling what other characters could make it in! Having said that, here are seven guest characters that I think should make it into Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising!

    Siegfried (SoulCalibur)

Siegfried, who would be one of the best guest characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

You’ve heard of him, and you love him! Siegfried from the hit SoulCalibur fighting game franchise would be the perfect guest character for GBVSR. The SoulCalibur and Granblue Fantasy worlds share a high-fantasy setting filled with rich lore and intense combat. Additionally, Siegfried would fit right into the Dragon Knights group with Vance and Lancelot, as he seeks personal growth just as they do.

I think it’s also worth noting that the current CEO of Cygames, Motohiro Okubo, was the producer of SoulCalibur VI. This is where 2B first appeared in a fighting game, so I think Okubo would love to see Siegfried enter Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Who knows, maybe we might see that one day!

    Zidane (Final Fantasy IX)

I’m pretty sure having a Final Fantasy guest character in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising would be a no-brainer. The influence that Final Fantasy has on the Granblue Fantasy franchise is massive. Previous Final Fantasy developers such as Hideo Manaba and Nobuo Uematsu have considerable roles in the mobile game. Uematsu is one of the game’s composers, whereas Hideo Manaba is the game’s art director. From the similar logo to the magic-filled world, Granblue Fantasy has Final Fantasy written all over it.

As for Zidane, he’d fit right into Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. His trance form could be his transformation super, and I could totally see him maneuvering around the screen. Additionally, seeing him interact with the Granblue cast would be a treat, especially with the female characters since he is a ladies’ man. Even if not Zidane, they need to add some sort of Final Fantasy character in the game.

    Ryu (Street Fighter)

Ryu, who would be one of the best guest characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

Okay, but if you are trying to brawl it out in a fighting game, you can’t do it without Ryu! The Granblue Fantasy Versus series adopts a slow-paced, 2D grounded combat style similar to Street Fighter. Ryu’s style of play would mesh very well with GBVSR, as many characters in that game are shotos. I can already see Ryu throwing out Hadokens against Gran’s Reginleiv.

However, this isn’t the first time that Ryu met Gran. In the Granblue Fantasy mobile game, there was a Street Fighter V collaboration event. Many Street Fighter characters, including Chun-Li, Sagat, and M. Bison, made an appearance to celebrate the crossover. I think Ryu’s recent appearance with the Granblue Fantasy characters gives Cygames even more of a reason to bring him back in GBVSR, especially now that Granblue Fantasy has become an actual fighting game!

    Johnny (Guilty Gear)

Johnny, who would be one of the coolest guest characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

Arc System Works is one of the developers on Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, so having one of the guest characters be from an Arc Sys title would be neat! An Arc System Works character that would be a fantastic addition to GBVSR‘s roster would be Johnny from the Guilty Gear series! He’s an experienced swordsman with a lot of stylishness in his play style. Fun fact: Narmaya’s Setsuna special move takes much inspiration from Johnny’s Mist Finer!

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that just like Gran and his crewmates, Johnny sails the skies with his fellow sky pirates. In Granblue Fantasy, there’s no telling who you will run into in the skies. It would be the perfect opportunity to make a teaser trailer of Gran and his friends running into Johhny, with both of their ships colliding.

    Crono (Chrono Trigger)

    Crono from Chrono Trigger

Finally, I think we can leave some more space for one more Square Enix rep, Crono from Chrono Trigger. Crono is one of the most beloved RPG protagonists, coming from one of the best RPGs of all time. Seeing him appear in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising would be a treat, as this would be his first fighting game appearance. I could see the developers trying to implement his ATB system into his combat, allowing him to do high damaging attacks with max meter.

I also think it would be an excellent way to pay tribute to the late Akira Toriyama. RPGs such as Chrono Trigger and Blue Dragon were outstanding standouts in the genre that Toriyama contributed to creating. GBVSR is a fighting game that celebrates RPG elements, so there’s no better way to celebrate it than adding a lot more RPG guest characters!

What Guest Characters Would You Want In Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising?

At the moment, the August and October DLC characters have yet to be announced. The possibilities for who could arrive are endless, leaving the game’s future at an exciting place. Who would you want to make it in the game? Do you think we could get another guest character at all? Remember, the skies are limitless.
