    The June 2023 Nintendo Direct was brief but still had many new things to show off. from Mario to Metal Gear, Switch users still have a lot to look forward to. Here’s everything new we learned from the Direct. 

    Super Mario RPG Remake

    Super Mario RPG Remake

    Arguably one of the most significant announcements of the June 2023 Nintendo Direct is a remake of the classic SNES game Super Mario RPG. This will feature completely remade visuals and some gameplay enhancements. Additionally, the game will be accessible to both old and new fans alike.  Mario fans will be able to experience this unique Mario adventure again on November 17. 

    Detective Pikachu Sequel

    Detective Pikachu Returns

    Despite receiving a live-action movie adaptation in 2019, there hasn’t been a sequel to the original Detective Pikachu game until now. Detective Pikachu Returns presents a new adventure for the titular Pikachu and Tim Goodman. Fans can enjoy the new sleuthing adventure on October 6, 2023.

    A new game featuring Princess Peach as the protagonist was revealed. Unfortunately, not much is known about this game as of writing. However, the Direct did reveal a brief glimpse of the game for those who are curious. While it isn’t known exactly how the game will play, this Princess Peach game was one of the more exciting announcements of the June 2023 Nintendo Direct. 

    Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Remaster

    Originally a 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is finally coming to Nintendo Switch next year. While the details on this remaster are a bit light, it is confirmed that the game will feature enhanced visuals. For those not in the know, Dark Moon is the sequel to the original Luigi’s Mansion. Also, Be sure to stay tuned for more updates on this title, as Nintendo promises to reveal more info in the future!

    Pikmin 1 and 2 Are Now on Nintendo Switch

    As of the time of the direct, players can download and play Pikmin 1 and 2 on Switch. While the game isn’t currently available as a physical release, that will change. Players will be able to purchase the bundle physically on September 22. Digitally, these titles are available separately or as a bundle. 

    Pikmin 4 Is Getting a Demo

    On June 28, players will be able to download a demo for Pikmin 4 via the Nintendo eShop. In addition, this Direct revealed a new trailer for the game that goes into detail about gameplay features. Fans will be able to purchase Pikmin 4 on July 21, 2023. 

    Silent Hope

    Silent Hope is a new action RPG from Marvelous featuring seven playable characters with unique fighting styles. Dungeons will contain randomly generated layouts, resulting in a unique experience every time the player visits them. Those who are interested can pick the game up on October 3 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. 

    WarioWare: Move It!

    WarioWare Move It

    WarioWare: Move It! is the latest game in the WarioWare series and will feature over 200 microgames. Many of these will require the player to move their body with the motion capabilities of the Joy-Con controllers. Players will be able to enjoy the latest microgame collection on November 3. 

    Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Gets a Release Date

    The June Direct confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be coming to Nintendo Switch. In addition, a release date was also revealed, as fans can now expect to pick up the collection on October 24 this fall. This collection will include the first three Metal Gear Solid games and the first two Metal Gear games along with Snake’s Revenge. Sadly, there is currently no word on the second volume as of writing. 

    Star Ocean: The Second Story R

    Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a remake of the second game in the Star Ocean series. It will feature new, stylized visuals somewhat reminiscent of games such as Octopath Traveler. This reimagining will be making its way to Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on November 2 this year.

    Batman: Arkham Trilogy Is Coming to Nintendo Switch

    For the first time ever, Switch users will be able to enjoy the three main games in the Batman: Arkham series. This includes Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight. This means Arkham Origins and Arkham Origins: Blackgate will not be included. However, all previously released DLC for the three games will be present in this collection. Switch owners can expect the trilogy to arrive this fall.

    Vampire Survivors Is Coming to Nintendo Switch

    Vampire Survivors was a surprise indie hit in 2022 with its simple, yet addictive gameplay. Now, Switch users will be able to join in on the fun on August 17. Considering that it became one of the most played titles on the Steam Deck, it’s no surprise that the game would be a perfect fit for the Switch. Vampire Survivors features minimalistic rogue-lite bullet hell gameplay that’s a perfect fit for handheld platforms. 

    Penny’s Big Breakaway

    Penny’s Big Breakaway is a new platformer developed by the same team responsible for Sonic Mania. However, instead of being a 2D game, this will be a full 3D experience. The gameplay will primarily focus on the abilities of Penny’s yo-yo. Players can expect to enjoy it on all platforms at some point in early 2024. 

    Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Release Date Reveal

    While this game did get announced before the Direct, it did reveal some gameplay and when Dragon Quest fans can expect to play the new spin-off title.  Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is coming to Nintendo Switch this winter on December 1. 

    Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 5

    It was revealed that Wave 5 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass will release this summer. In addition, Mario Kart fans got a glimpse at what to expect from the DLC, including a peek at a new course and new characters. This includes Petey Piranha, Wiggler, and Kamek. Wave 6 will also launch sometime later this year.

    Tears of the Kingdom Amiibos

    Previously, Link was the only Tears of the Kingdom amiibo available. This is about to change. Zelda and Ganondorf will be receiving new Tears of the Kingdom amiibos later this year during the holiday season. Players can use these amiibos to unlock in-game items and special fabric for Link’s paraglider.

    Some Additional Announcements

    • Sonic Superstars received a new trailer that didn’t provide much in terms of new information, but fans may still want to check it out. Players will be able to get their hands on the game this fall. 
    • Gloomhaven is a video game adaptation of a board game that shares the same name. Originally this title was exclusive to PC, but Switch owners will be able to enjoy it later this year.
    • MythForce was a game that was previously only available through early access on the Epic Games Store. The game takes inspiration from iconic Saturday morning cartoons. It is now coming to every current platform this fall.
    • Owners of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope can now purchase the DLC expansion The Last Spark Hunter as of this Direct. 
    • Just Dance 2024 Edition received a new trailer. The game will be available on October 24. 
    • A new Splatfest for Splatoon 3 will be held from July 14 to July 16. 
    • The farming sim Fae Farm received a new trailer. 
    • Headbangers Rhythm Royale, a rhythm-based battle royale game got announced at the Direct. It will support up to 30 players and will launch on October 31.
    • Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 received a new trailer for its Switch release. 
    • The free-to-play MMO Palia received a new trailer and is coming to Nintendo Switch during the holiday season this year. 
    • The co-op game Manic Mechanics was announced and will launch on July 13 for Nintendo Switch.

    Super Mario Bros. Wonder

    Finally, The last announcement of the June 2023 Nintendo Direct was definitely a significant one. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is an all-new 2D Mario game featuring a fresh art style. The Mario series hasn’t received a proper new 2D title since New Super Mario Bros. U. Besides Mario, Luigi, and Toad, the game will feature Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi as playable characters. 

    This will be the first brand-new 2D Mario game on the Nintendo Switch. Mario fans can get their hands on Super Mario Bros. Wonder on October 20, 2023.
