Bethesda has officially confirmed that both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters are in development. In addition, it revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are its biggest priority at the moment, and that Obsidian is working with them on a new Fallout game.
In a recent post, Bethesda outlined its plans for the future. It revealed that new updates for Starfield and Fallout 76 will release soon. In regards to Obsidian, it stated that “they’re working with us on a new Fallout project.” It also revealed that “Our teams are now developing The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 on Creation Engine 3…Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction. The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise.”
While Bethesda previously confirmed Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI, it also took the opportunity to confirm that the long rumored Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 remasters are in development. It has not revealed any release dates, though it did state that it is planning “something special for Fallout‘s 30th anniversary in 2027, when Fallout Day will be celebrated live in Washington, D.C.”
The announcement comes just a few weeks after major Xbox layoffs, which, according to a report from Bloomberg, led to Obsidian cancelling several projects. One of these projects would have been an Avowed sequel. Josh Sawyer, the creator of Fallout: New Vegas, was also working on “a roleplaying game that was similar structurally and thematically to Fallout but was not part of the franchise” that has now been cancelled. Now, he will lead a new Fallout game.
