In a latest series of interviews at IGN, Bethesda’s Todd Howard shared an outlook of the company going forward and their plans. Starfield is the company’s main focus with a release in late 2022. According to Howard, it was a “now or never” situation for Starfield which means that it would likely never release if the company decided to go all out sooner with The Elder Scrolls VI. As a result, The Elder Scrolls VI is still in pre-production while Bethesda works to finish up Starfield. Starfield has been in development since 2015.
“Everything takes longer than we’d like as well, but we want to make sure we get it right. Hopefully Elder Scrolls 6 — you don’t want to say that it’s worth that kind of wait — but it does stand up to the series as it has been in a really big, impactful way when it comes out.”
With The Elder Scrolls VI in the background and Starfield on stage, Fallout 5 also remains a long way away. According to Howard, the company has a “one-pager” or high-level concept overview of what the game will be. This means written mechanics, story elements, ideas and more. Fallout 5 comes after The Elder Scrolls VI so fans should look elsewhere for their western RPG fix in the meantime. Games like The Outer Worlds 2 and Starfield are coming soon. Fans can also look forward to revisiting Skyrim in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition. Lastly, the full interviews are available here.
