Nintendo has renamed its WARPSTAR, Inc. subsidiary to Nintendo Stars. Additionally, it has confirmed that the subsidiary will focus on ancillary-use business related to films featuring Nintendo IP.
In a statement, Nintendo said the following: “By implementing and licensing various ancillary uses in films, Nintendo Stars Inc. aims to familiarize people around the world with Nintendo IP and provide new ways to experience it.
In addition, Nintendo Stars Inc. will continue its ancillary-use business of the Kirby franchise, which WARPSTAR, Inc. has been engaged in. By utilizing the know-how cultivated in this business, Nintendo Stars Inc. aims to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP through cooperation with partners around the world, and strengthen the relationship between Nintendo and its customers.”
Currently, Nintendo has two film adaptations in development: a new Super Mario Bros. movie, releasing on April 3, 2026, and a live-action Legend of Zelda film, premiering on May 7, 2027. The latter features Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
Bo Bragason is a relatively unknown actress known for Renegade Neil on Disney+. Ainsworth on the other hand has starred in The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix. He has also been in the live-action Pinocchio film by Disney as the titular character. At the time of writing, Nintendo has not yet confirmed when Sony will begin filming the upcoming movie will start.
Wes Ball directs the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. In the past, Ball directed The Maze Runner franchise and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The movie is produced by Arad Productions, known for its work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Homecoming. It has also worked on Kraven the Hunter and Uncharted. Nintendo is co-financing the film with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
