Ave Mujica – The Die is Cast – Episode 7 Review — Mending Fences

    At very long last.

The previous six episodes, and the BanG Dream MyGO!!!!! anime, have all led up to what happened in Ave Mujica – The Die is Cast – episode 7, and it’s my favorite episode so far. There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the storyline between Sakiko and Mutsumi for weeks now, but I think episode 7 brought the payoff that many have been waiting for.

Ave Mujica episode 6 beautifully depicted how broken Mutsumi was for quite some time after Ave Mujica’s disbandment, but it also gave some hope at the very end. MyGO!!!!!, and its former CRYCHIC members, decided to make their moves in an attempt to both understand the reasons for Sakiko and Mutsumi’s behavior. Episode 7 is the culmination of their efforts, and MyGO!!!!! realized that they needed this moment just as much as Sakiko and Mutsumi did.

Spoiler warning: there will be story spoilers ahead for episode 7, including plot points, reveals, and major character choices.

Ave Mujica – The Die is Cast – Episode 7 Brought Some Much Needed Closure

Ave Mujica episode 7 began with an angered Soyo confronting Sakiko about Mutsumi, and she demanded Sakiko to see Mutsumi in her current state. Of course, this was a tall order for Sakiko, who had been distancing herself from everyone for the past few episodes. However, Soyo’s sheer determination proved too powerful for Sakiko. This was the moment that made everything fall into place, as Sakiko finally showed her vulnerable side to her former bandmates from CRYCHIC. Mutsumi’s Mortis personality still proved to be an obstacle, but it’s clear that hearts were softening. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of this episode, but really, the best was yet to come.

Sakiko’s own determination to reconcile with Mutsumi was really inspiring in this episode, and it’s quite a contrast from her previous behavior. Seeing Sakiko wait days outside of Mutsumi’s home in order to finally see her again was heartwarming. In fact, it was touching enough for Mortis to slowly free her grasp on Mutsumi, especially when Sakiko embraced her at her home’s gate. Sakiko certainly developed a lot as a character in the episode, and Taki certainly noticed her growth. Despite their differences, Taki was able to see that Sakiko was vulnerable and willing to mend fences as well. All these moments led to the moment I was waiting for: Sakiko and Mutsumi finally apologizing to each other.

    A Tearful Reunion

With Sakiko and Mutsumi back on good terms, the opportunity for CRYCHIC’s reunion and a true sendoff was finally upon us. Since Rāna was running an errand, Sakiko and Mutsumi decided to help with the rehearsal and play a song that Tomori was working on in her notebook. Tomori wrote the song based on what she observed of Sakiko, including the wish to become more “human.” The song literally struck a chord with everyone, with Tomori crying and revealing that despite everything, she was happy to have joined CRYCHIC.

This was a beautiful moment without misunderstandings or conflict, as CRYCHIC performed Tomori’s song for what could be their last time performing together. In the most tearjerking scenes of the series so far, Taki, Tomori, Soyo, Sakiko, and Mutsumi all performed with appreciation and admiration for each other. With MyGO!!!!! returning to their actual rehearsals, this CRYCHIC chapter can close on a good note, a brilliant and memorable one at that.

Ave Mujica’s Comeback is Now Loading

One key detail that I thought stood out the most was Umiri’s involvement, as she was watching CRYCHIC perform during the rehearsal session. In the anime thus far, Umiri has been really stoic and nonchalant, despite being a key member of Ave Mujica. There were moments where she was confrontational, but I think episode 7 was the most important episode for her. Umiri actually expressed her discontentment with Ave Mujica’s disbandment in the most obvious way possible: jealousy.

Umiri was clearly jealous of seeing CRYCHIC finally come together and settle Sakiko and Mutsumi’s differences, and it likely made her think of herself in a less favorable light, considering she was a proponent of Ave Mujica’s disbandment. Now that Sakiko and Mutsumi are back to their senses, Umiri doesn’t want to be left behind to face the issues they once had. It’s time for Ave Mujica to reunite and mount a comeback, and I seriously can’t wait to see how it will unfold. If future episodes are anything like episode 7, then I expect some masterpieces to drop.

Ave Mujica – The Die is Cast – is streaming right now on Crunchyroll, with new episodes premiering on Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. PST.
