ESRB has officially rated Resident Evil 5 for Xbox Series X|S. It is currently unknown if the rating indicates that a remake of Resident Evil 5 is in development or if it will simply be another remaster.
In the past, Capcom has stuck to a certain formula with recent Resident Evil games. Usually, they release a new entry in the mainline entry then two remakes made in the same engine. Afterwards, they release another mainline game. For example, they released Resident Evil 7 in 2017, Resident Evil 2 Remake in 2019, and Resident Evil 3 Remake in 2020.
In 2021, Capcom released Resident Evil 8. Two years later, they launched Resident Evil 4 Remake. Capcom may launch a remake of Resident Evil 5 this year, if their previous pattern is anything to go by. Especially if it continues to use the RE Engine and utilizes similar assets from RE4.
That said, it’s worth noting that the new ESRB rating is the exact same as the original Resident Evil 5. Capcom will likely confirm more official details soon. The game is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Steam describes it as follows:
The Umbrella Corporation and its crop of lethal viruses have been destroyed and contained. But a new, more dangerous threat has emerged. Years after surviving the events in Raccoon City, Chris Redfield has been fighting the scourge of bio-organic weapons all over the world.
Now a member of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), Chris is sent to Africa to investigate a biological agent that is transforming the populace into aggressive and disturbing creatures. Joined by another local BSAA agent, Sheva Alomar, the two must work together to solve the truth behind the disturbing turn of events.
