A new patent for Nintendo Switch 2 outlines the mouse functions of the new Joy-Con controllers, which was previously teased in the console’s reveal trailer.
The Nintendo Switch 2 patent is mostly in Japanese, but a basic description was provided in English, re-confirming the use of the mouse sensor. The description states, “the sensor for mouse operation detects reflected light from a detected surface, the light changing by moving over the detected surface in a state in which either the first side surface or the second side surface is placed on the detected surface.”
Several diagrams show the use of Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con as a mouse for games. One Joy-Con may be used for traditional play, while the other may be used as a mouse. The Joy-Con’s bumper and trigger are used to simulate left and right clicking. Moreover, a separate controller similar to a Pro Controller was depicted. Strangely, this controller may be split in half and used like a mouse as well, thanks to the included sensors.

Previously, Furukawa confirmed that the company is already preparing measures against scalpers when the Nintendo Switch 2 console launches later this year. Furukawa also stated that the company would continue to support the original Switch after Switch 2’s launch as long as demand for the console remains.
Nintendo Switch 2 features a new stand, new magnetic joycons, a mysterious new button, and a new dock and handheld base. The console is expected to have Hall Effect sticks, which eliminate the stick drift problems of the original Nintendo Switch. More official details about the console will be revealed at the April 2 Nintendo Direct.
Lastly, fans hoping to try the console out can attend the Switch 2 experience, an event that will be held around the world.
