Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch eShop and other online services offered on the platform will end in China starting March 31, 2026. On that date, the Chinese Nintendo eShop will no longer sell games and other software, including DLC.
According to the official notice from Nintendo, all software, including paid and free games, will no longer be available to purchase or claim on March 31 in the Chinese Nintendo eShop. On May 15, 2026, players will no longer be able to download games or redeem codes, and DLC will be inaccessible as well.
From November 27, 2024 to March 31, 2026, players who own a Chinese Nintendo Switch and have an active WeChat account can receive up to four Nintendo Switch games for free. These games include:
- New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Party
- Mario Tennis Aces
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
- Flexible Brain School
- Dr Kawashima’s Brain Exercises
- Kirby Star Allies
- New Pokémon Snap
- Pokémon Go! Pikachu
- Pokémon Let’s Go! Eevee
The four free games can only be redeemed once per WeChat account that is tied to the Nintendo Switch user. If the user has multiple Nintendo Switch consoles, they will also need to have multiple WeChat accounts to redeem the titles per account.
Nintendo collaborated with Tencent to sell the Nintendo Switch console in China. The console first launched in 2020, with the region’s first game being Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
A Nintendo Switch successor is currently in the works at the company, and a reveal is coming within the fiscal year. The console will be backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games and support Nintendo Switch Online.
