    Nintendo Switch Backwards Compatibility Confirmed for Switch Successor

    A massive reveal.

    Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch successor will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo Switch Online also available on the system. Shintaro Furukawa released the following message via Nintendo’s X (Twitter) account: 

    “This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

    This comes after Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch console has surpassed over 146 million units sold worldwide. Overall, the Switch successor, dubbed ‘Switch 2’ by many fans, will greatly benefit from the Switch library. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomSuper Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, and even the entire Xenoblade Chronicles series.
