Nintendo has announced that the new live-action film adaptation for The Legend of Zelda will not have a subtitle. According to series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, The Legend of Zelda will be an original film based on the main stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, which celebrates its 40th anniversary.
During The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct, Miyamoto said, “Once you see the film, you’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle. This is an original film based on the main stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years. Through the creative power and visual expertise of the talented production team, it has become an artistic work worthy of The Legend of Zelda series. Both the development team for Nintendo and I are also involved, of course. When we talk about The Legend of Zelda, there’s the Triforce. What role do you think it will play in the film? We’ll share more details at a later time, so please look forward to it.”
The Legend of Zelda film opens on April 30, 2027 in theaters. The movie will star Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Wes Ball directs the movie, which is in production between Nintendo, Arad Productions Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc. In the past, Ball directed The Maze Runner franchise and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
What’s more, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time will launch on November 5 for Nintendo Switch 2 digitally for $59.99 and physically for $69.99, and pre-orders are now open in the Nintendo eShop. In addition, a new The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 40th Anniversary Edition console will release on October 29 alongside a newly themed Pro Controller and carrying case (with screen protector).
