Vanillaware is recruiting staff for development of a new fantasy action RPG, according to the developer’s new Twitter post. A new visual for the upcoming fantasy action RPG was revealed as well.
ATLUS and Vanillaware’s latest game, tactical fantasy RPG Unicorn Overlord, exceeded 500,000 copies sold worldwide across all platforms. These sales include physical shipments and digital copies sold across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Only two months have passed since launch, and it appears that Vanillaware is moving on to its next RPG.
Vanillaware Working on New Fantasy Action RPG
On Twitter, Vanillaware revealed a new key visual for an upcoming fantasy action RPG, confirming that the studio is hiring staff for development of the new title. The visual notes that the studio is looking to hire programmers, 2D animators, and background designers. Further details about the game were not revealed, however.

Vanillaware brings forth the “rebirth” of tactical fantasy RPGs in Unicorn Overlord. Alain, the protagonist and prince of Cornia, is chosen to lead the Liberation Army and battle the forces of Zenoira in order to return peace to Fevrith. On launch day (March 8), the day one update added support for save data transfers from the Unicorn Overlord demo. The Normal difficulty is included with the update as well. Normal difficulty is identical to the Casual difficulty level that was found in the demo.
Vanillaware’s highly successful 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim made its long-awaited debut on Nintendo Switch in 2022. Nearly 4 years after its original release on PlayStation 4, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim became a worldwide million-seller. The Nintendo Switch release is great contributor toward the game’s one million copies sold worldwide.
Lastly, Unicorn Overlord is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S worldwide.
