Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will Have “Accompanying Members” Similar to Red XIII in Remake

Not everyone will be playable in Rebirth.

In an interview with PS Blog, Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will have “accompanying members” in the party, similar to how Red XIII operated in Final Fantasy VII Remake. The trailer today confirmed that Yuffie, Red XIII, and Cait Sith were playable party members.

So, this naturally leads to fingers pointing at Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. The two members of the party are crucial at different points in the original game. However, it would not be all that surprising if they were not fully playable in Rebirth. With three new party members already, the development team might opt to save Vincent and Cid for the third entry. However, could this point to additional new members we do not know about? We’ll have to wait and see.

Nomura: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Have “Accompanying Members” Who Will Join the Party in the Next Title

You can take a look at the question and answer from Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura below:

We have seen Red XIII and Cait Sith shown as playable characters and the footage released also shows another character who looks like Vincent, so will he be playable as well? Will the party expand further too?

Nomura: The original party members are all present in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In the previous title, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Red XIII became an accompanying member in the second half of the game, but he will become an official, playable party member starting from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Similarly, there are characters who are accompanying members in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, that will become official party members in the next title.

Tetsuya Nomura also confirmed today that the iconic date scenes from Gold Saucer will return in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release on February 29, 2024. The game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 at launch. Starting on May 29, 2024, the game will be permitted to release on other platforms.
