The recent Nintendo Direct was a massive success. There was new information about upcoming games like Pikmin 4 and brand-new announcements like Detective Pikachu Returns. Here are some of the best announcements and reveals from the June 2023 Nintendo Direct.
Batman Arkham Trilogy
The Batman Arkham Trilogy has been rumored for the Switch for years. The recent direct finally confirmed that the trilogy will be released in Fall 2023. It will include Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight. Although Arkham Origins will not be included, and it remains to be seen how the game will play on the Switch, the upcoming trilogy will undoubtedly become the definitive way to play these critically acclaimed titles.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1
At the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Konami announced that there would be a collection of the first few Metal Gear Solid games released on most modern consoles. The June 2023 Nintendo Direct officially confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will release on the Nintendo Switch on October 24, 2023.
It will include the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and the first few Metal Gear games released on the NES and more. It’s been years since there’s been a Metal Gear game on Nintendo consoles, so for newcomers and long-time fans of the series, this will be the perfect game to play the franchise.

Princess Peach Game
One of the best and most surprising announcements at the Nintendo Direct was the reveal of a new Princess Peach game. Almost nothing is known about the upcoming release. What we do know is that it will be a new 2D platformer with stunning HD Graphics. It will also release at some point next year. The last time Princess Peach had her own game was in 2005 with Super Princess Peach on the DS. The new release looks like a fun and exciting contrast to the traditional Mario formula.
Super Mario RPG Remake
One of the biggest surprises from the Nintendo Direct was the Super Mario RPG Remake. First released in 1996, Nintendo developed the game in partnership with Square Enix. But after their partnership broke, many believed we’d never see this game again. But after years of hoping, Super Mario RPG has returned as a faithful remake. Featuring brand-new graphics, this new remake will be the first time the game will be playable on a modern console in over a decade. Set to release on November 17, 2023, it will undoubtedly be a significant highlight of the Holiday Season.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Super Mario Bros. Wonder was easily one of the best announcements at the Direct. Set to release on October 20, 2023, this is the first time there’s been a brand-new 2D Mario Game in almost ten years. However, this isn’t styled like the old New Super Mario Bros. game and instead features a claymation-esque 2.5D art style. The game will feature brand-new power-ups, characters, worlds, and Princess Daisy playable in a mainline 2D platformer for the first time. I’m excited to see how this paves the way forward for new Mario games.
