PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Season 4 details announced

Season 4 begins July 24

The famed island of Erangel is getting an overhaul, PUBG Corp has announced. Season 4 of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is underway next week on PC and later this summer on consoles.

In a cinematic trailer posted to their respective social media sites, PUBG Corp gave us a look at what’s coming for season 4 in the popular battle royale. Notable among the changes is a complete graphical overhaul to Erangel, the map that started it all. Popular landmarks such as the Prison, Military Base, Mylta Power, and the Mansion will be showcasing what is believed to be the “aftermath” of a great war, as seen in the trailer.

Also coming to the battle royale shooter is a new turntable item. The turntable will spawn randomly throughout the map, allowing players to play music for all nearby combatants to hear. Turntables can be destroyed or turned off and will stop playing after one track. This should add a nice surprise mechanic to the game itself.

Full patch notes can be found on PUBG Corp’s website. Season 4 is on the test server now and hits PC fully next week on July 24 and consoles later this summer. Stay tuned for updates.

Someone at THQ accidentally leaked entire Darksiders 3 DLC inside the game.

Game development is an extremely difficult and tricky environment, one that is definitely not immune to human error, even some of the most hilarious ones. We have often heard of leaks and rumors, but actual unintentional leaks INSIDE a video game might be a first, if not one of the few rare cases.

User Dragonfire9000 on Reddit, reported recently a…strange event that occurred, to say the least after an update for Darksiders 3.

“So I’m not too sure how many of you are in the same boat.

I have the Season Pass for Darksiders 3 and this afternoon my Xbox just downloaded the second DLC, however I don’t think this was actually meant to happen on THQ Nordics side as the introduction cutscene seemed unfinished, there are no new achievements and the final confirming fact, when you enter the DLC, floating in mid-air is the text “start point for DLC2”.

I think someone mixed up an update and the actual DLC in an unfinished state, there no background layer textures are missing, hard-line textures are still there (the things that indicate were something should be.)

there are gaps in the scenery and it suffers from major pop in were entire chunks of the environment just appear out of mid-air.

Hopefully, someone at THQ Nordic gets wind of what happened and issues a fixed notice… soon….”

He claimed after receiving an update that literally leaked the entire second DLC in a less than unfinished state.

For context, THQ announced two main DLCs for their Legend Of Zelda / Classic God Of War inspired franchise, Darksiders 3. While the first DLC dropped recently, the second DLC, named Keepers of the Void was not supposed to release THIS early. Therefore, Reddit user Dragonfire9000 got access to a whole new area with missions, story content, and puzzles.

Darksiders III is a hack and slash action-adventure video game developed by Gunfire Games and published by THQ Nordic for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, released November the 27th, 2018 with a still rumored Nintendo Switch release.

Opinion: Nintendo Switch Lite was necessary for the future of the console

After months of speculation, Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch Lite as the latest addition to the lineup. It is a dedicated handheld platform lacking key features of the Nintendo Switch, but sold at a cheaper price point.

Naturally, opinions surrounding the Nintendo Switch Lite are varied. The console is acknowledged as a great successor to the Nintendo 3DS that appeals to a broader audience. Yet the inability to output to a television and the lack of HD Rumble are major points of contention.

Regardless, the general sentiment remains that the Nintendo Switch Lite will easily push new consoles throughout the holiday season. Paired alongside the release of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, retail stores will struggle to keep consoles on the shelves.

The decision to release the Nintendo Switch Lite was widely deemed a smart move. However, I further assert that it was essential to the longevity of the Nintendo Switch, and its existence guarantees a healthy future for the console.

Next-Gen on the Horizon

By the end of 2020, many expect Microsoft and Sony to release new consoles. Presumably, excitement surrounding the consoles will dominate the discourse in the months prior. Not to mention, the improved specifications of the consoles will outclass the Nintendo Switch with ease. While one could argue the Nintendo Switch is not a direct competitor of either company, the newest PlayStation and Xbox consoles will be positioned as the hottest items for purchase during the holiday season. And if both consoles successfully keep the momentum going after release, the Nintendo Switch’s lifetime sales will suffer against fresh competition.

The Nintendo Switch has experienced great success, with about 35 million units sold as of March 31st, 2019. Yet Nintendo must increase the install base quickly when attention surrounding the Nintendo Switch is at its peak to remain a viable platform.

Enter the Nintendo Switch Lite. Meant to compliment the original Nintendo Switch, the price point and portability ensure it will be a financial success. One could expect the console to push 20 million units or more, a target goal Nintendo failed to reach in the 2018 fiscal year. And prior to the 2020 holiday season, lifetime sales of the console will surely eclipse 60 million. With an impressive install base, Nintendo can guarantee word-of-mouth as an essential source of marketing to push more software.

Attach rates are historically impressive on Nintendo platforms, and the Nintendo Switch is no different. With the Nintendo Switch Lite expanding the install base, the catalog of games will benefit from greater exposure. Games like Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will continue to sell alongside purchases of the Nintendo Switch Lite despite releasing earlier in the life cycle. From there, the quality of those games will contribute to further engagement with the Nintendo brand.

Conclusion

The Nintendo Switch Lite might not appeal to the most dedicated Nintendo fans. Yet it holds potential to propel the console family to new heights that might be unachievable after the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles hit the market. Come September 26th, the future of the Nintendo Switch will be brighter than ever before.
