Mega Man series producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya: next major Mega Man game is in development

According to a recent interview with Japanese gaming outlet 4Gamer, Mega Man series producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya states that the next game is in development! Currently, specific details on the next game can’t be explained but it is indeed in development. Tsuchiya further states that there’s no real spin off in the series. The Mega Man series includes many heroes with their own routes and stories. Here’s the important excerpt courtesy of Rockman Corner:

4Gamer: “What can you tell us about the next game to be developed? The most recent game – Mega Man 11 – was amazing, and we [4Gamer] are expecting the revival of the Star Force series. Personally I would like to see the Command Mission saga to be brought back. (laughs)”

Tsuchiya: “I see (laughs). There are a lot of titles I personally want to work on, but to tell the truth the next game to be developed has already been decided on, I’d just like to keep the specific details hidden for the moment. Please wait until we make an announcement. Still, I think that the there’s no such thing as a spin-off in the Mega Man series, every saga is a main series on its own. When speaking of “Mega Man”, there will always be people who think of “X”, as well as people who think of “EXE”, and I think that’s why each one’s concept of what Mega Man is changes depending on the generation. For that reason, we don’t want to deny any series of its future.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake TGS 2019 Special Stage footage and info round-up

Square Enix and Sony showcased a ton of Final Fantasy VII Remake information and footage last night. Fans were wowed by the amount of features being added to the remake of the classic game. Here’s a full recap of last night’s special stage show by Square Enix and the footage uploaded by Sony:

We got a glimpse at both “Easy” and “Normal” modes from the in-game option menus, and Kitase-san then showed us a new combat mode, named “Classic Mode”.

In the original #FinalFantasy VII, you would wait around until the ATB Gauge fills up, and then select a move to initiate your attack. With Classic Mode in #FF7R the team have re-created the same style of play!

In standard modes, the ATB Gauge fills up by repeatedly attacking your enemy, but in Classic Mode this aspect of gameplay is handled automatically. The player does not need to do anything and the character fights automatically, charging up their ATB Gauge.

So anyone playing #FinalFantasy VII Remake in Classic Mode does not have to worry about the action side of the combat system, and can instead focus on selecting commands, making it possible to play #FF7R as if it were a classic menu-based RPG!

After showing off combat in #FinalFantasy VII Remake, Kitase-san introduced one of the elements we first saw in the #FF7R TGS Trailer a few days ago – the Squats mini-game, and our presenter did an amazing job of playing!

Finally, we got a closer look at one of the boss fights in the game. In this segment we saw Cloud, Tifa and Aerith take on Aps in the sewers of Midgar.

Aerith’s standard attacks are long-ranged, and pressing the Triangle button uses her unique character ability “Tempest”. Her Holy Circle ability creates an area in the battlefield, and any spell used within the area is cast repeatedly.

During this boss battle, Cloud had the Ifrit Summon Materia equipped. And because of this, Cloud’s attacks caused his Summon Gauge to eventually fill up completely over time…

With a full Summon Gauge we saw Cloud summon Ifrit, who remained on the battlefield. Summons are typically controlled by the AI, but we saw Cloud spend his ATB charges to make Ifrit use his unique abilities, such as Flare Burst and Crimson Dive!

Ifrit remained on the battlefield fighting until Cloud’s Summon Gauge depleted, at which point Ifrit unleashed his ultimate attack: Hellfire!

Each character can equip up to one Summon Materia each, and while playing #FF7R it’ll be up to the player to decide which Summon to equip, depending on the battlefield and enemy!

Final Fantasy VII Remake will have an alternative mode that offers turn based combat.

One of the biggest complains from fans and purists when it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, is the new combat. A lot simply didn’t enjoy how it turned out in Final Fantasy XV and others just think it doesn’t belong in something like FFVII. If you share these thoughts, well, it turns out we have good news for you!
During the TGS panel, legendary FF7 director and FF7R producer, Kitase-san showed two new modes. Being named “Classic and Standard Modes”, the first one allows the player to simply select commands, making it possible to play FF7R as if it were a classic menu-based RPG. The second mode, on the other hand, is less automated, as your ATB Gauge fills up by repeatedly attacking your enemy. In short, both are parts of an even bigger mode that allows turn-based combat, classic being easy mode and standard being normal. A good alternative for those that are not fans of real-time combat in Final Fantasy!

There is however no doubts that the newer real-time action combat is the team’s main focus here as Mitsunori Takahashi, Kingdom Hearts 2 lead combat designer is taking care of it. Even stated by Kitase-san himself,
“We’ve solidified the base [of the battle system]. Tetsuya Nomura, of course, and Mitsunori Takahashi, who took part in Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy, are putting all of their effort into it.”

It seems like we’re getting the best of both worlds here, which should please both action and turn-based fans! In both cases, Final Fantasy VII Remake, once completed is shaping up to be one of the most important games of this decade knowing the unmatched phenomenal impact the original FF7 had on the gaming culture.
