PlayStation 5 will have much lower power consumption than PS4 for rest mode

Sony has announced that they’re partnering with the United Nations to combat climate change in their recent blog post. The alliance is called “Playing for the Planet,” focusing on the gaming industry contributing toward a safer environment. The company had already focused on energy efficient methods while developing the PS4. However, Sony also promises lower power consumption as a whole for the PS5 especially in rest mode. Here’s the excerpt from the recent blog post:

I am also very pleased to announce the next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.

Nintendo was reportedly aggressive in cutting costs to price the Switch Lite at $200 for a bigger impact in the US

Nintendo just released the Switch Lite today and many are picking the handheld only console from retailers worldwide. A brand new report from Takashi Mochizuki of Wall Street Journal also released today, detailing Nintendo’s efforts to make a cheaper Switch. Nintendo was reportedly aggressive in their cost cutting measures to make sure the Switch Lite released at $200. This was in an effort to make the Switch Lite have a bigger impact in the US. Here’s the excerpt from Mochizuki’s report:

Suggesting Nintendo’s eagerness to capture the low end of the market, suppliers say the company aggressively tried to cut costs and weighed a price tag below $200. An executive at one supplier said it battled Nintendo for months over the price of a key component.

Suppliers from Kyoto had “intense” battles over price setting for the Switch Lite. It seems like Nintendo efforts will pay off as they produce cheaper Switch units for more profit. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for more of the latest in Japanese gaming news!
