Box art revealed for Final Fantasy VII Remake, details about Classic mode and more

Square Enix has revealed the box art for Final Fantasy VII Remake! Along with this, PlayStation published a new blog post detailing the past information from TGS 2019. They re-clarified Classic Mode which may be due to confusion about the mode. Here are the details about the box art and Classic Mode:

The artwork pays homage to the North American cover used in the original Final Fantasy VII and features our hero, Cloud Strife, ready to take on the tyrannical Shinra Corporation.

Here’s one touch I’m particularly fond of: you can see two glowing materia equipped at the base of Cloud’s iconic Buster Sword. These colorful orbs allow our heroes to use powerful magic in combat – and the fact that you can see them equipped is a perfect example of the love, care and attention to detail being put into every aspect of the game.

Classic Mode allows players to focus on issuing commands in combat, without having to worry about dodging and blocking in real time.

When you enter a battle, a gauge (called ATB – a fun nod to the original game’s Active Time Battle system) automatically fills up. Once those gauges have filled up, you can issue commands to spend those charges – for example, do you use a special attack, cast some magic, or use an item? It’s all up to you.

Classic mode is just the thing for players who prefer to focus on tactics and strategy in combat rather than moment to moment action. And it’s perfect for fans who are nostalgic for menu-based RPGs like the original Final Fantasy VII.

Mini-games from the original release are returning as well like the squats mini-game. Here’s the special stage broadcast from TGS 2019:

Final Fantasy VII Remake releases on March 3rd, 2020 for PS4. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for more of the latest in Japanese gaming news!

Bandai Namco wants your blood and they will give you copies of Code Vein for it, no seriously

Are you attending TwitchCon this week-end? Do you want to try Code Vein and have blood to spare? Then good! It’s for a good cause. Bandai Namco will be holding a blood drive boot from 10 am to 4 pm at 170 Sixth Avenue. In the streets of San Diego convention center where TwitchCon is being held. The American Red Cross will be the third party involved in this whole operation and it’s actually quite fitting considering Code Vein’s vampirous plot, revolving around blood.

Often called “anime soul”, Code Vein is an action role-playing game set in an open world, post-apocalyptic dystopian environment. Its gameplay is inspired by the Dark Souls series of games, and it’s set to release September 27th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The blood drive has been announced here, on Bandai Namco US’ twitter account.

You can pre-register at the official Red Cross website.

Katanakami keeps the action packed hack and slash combat from the Way of the Samurai series and puts it in isometric view. Players can experience various styles of combat involving the katana and other weapons. Dungeons are automatically generated in the game and can be entered at night. Evil spirits roam in the Japanese-style worlds within the dungeons.

Players manage a blacksmith by building and selling weapons. Materials to build these weapons are gathered in the dungeons. A feature called “If War Occurs, the Blacksmith Profits” will appear at times within the game. In this system, conflicts between the Akadama Clan, Kurou Family and Post Town will occur based around the mountain. A huge amount of katanas must be forged in this event to help the business thrive.

Koji Igarashi wants Bloodstained to become a series, comments on Switch version

Castlevania and Bloodstained Ritual of the Night director Koji Igarashi sat down for an interview with Gameinformer recently. In the interview, Igarashi talks about the future of the IP and the Switch version of Ritual of the Night. The Bloodstained team want to make a series out of Bloodstained and challenge different genres. Here’s the excerpt from the interview:

“After the release of Bloodstained, I was able to prove that we can make this style of game without a large company behind us. We feel this game is the starting ground for the next step, so we have a strong desire to create a series of it after putting so much effort into the new IP.

Creating 2D side-scrolling action games is our strongest attribute, so we are also thinking about creating more games of the genre with different world settings. However, we also want to grow our company and it’s not okay to keep doing the same kind of game. In the future, we plan to challenge all different kinds of genres as well.”

Igarashi also comments on the Switch version, which released with technical issues. He didn’t expect it to release as bad as it did. However, he promises that WayForward and the team are working very hard to optimize it.

“While there were concerns over hardware limitations, we didn’t expect it to be as bad when it was released. Unfortunately, a number of problems occurred that we didn’t foresee. With WayForward’s support, these issues are being addressed, and they are working hard to optimize the Switch version.”

They were known for developing Batman Arkham Origins and since Rocksteady is likely done with Batman after Arkham Knight, it seems like the direction they’re taking is with the Court of Owls storyline. A full reveal should hopefully be coming in the next few days.
