Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will run at 30 FPS in towns, with better performance expected in “actual content,” according to a new interview at Famitsu. Yoshida tells Final Fantasy XIV fans and Switch 2 gamers to not worry about performance since the game is thoroughly optimized for the platform. In addition, players can enjoy playing with a keyboard and mouse on Switch 2.

Yoshida said, “Following the announcement at the keynote speech, I also saw some voices on social media asking “Is it going to be alright spec-wise?”, but we have thoroughly optimized it. There are no performance issues at all during actual content. It’s much more hectic when you’re in a town with a lot of characters, though I think it should run stably around 30 frames there as well. The performance is better in the actual content, so I think it should be okay and you should not worry.”

Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026. Early access for the Nintendo Switch 2 version is expected to last one month before the game’s launch, and access will be free to all players. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required, but players must purchase a dedicated Final Fantasy XIV subscription for the game’s Switch 2 version. This subscription will be 50% off to all active subscribers of Final Fantasy XIV on other platforms.

The events of Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.5 Trail to the Heavens will set up the path to Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold. Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.5 launches on April 28 and kick off a series of updates featuring the Beastmaster job, new main scenario quests, a new dungeon, the final instalment of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series, and so much more. The new Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold expansion will launch in January 2027.
