Best Anime of the 2025 Anime Season
My Hero Academia Final Season
It was a real shame to say goodbye to one of the greatest shounen anime in recent years. The season picked up from where the previous season left off, with All Might, Deku, and the heroes taking on AFO and Shigaraki. My Hero Academia has become a household name throughout the anime space, and while it is not for everyone, this final season is a fitting farewell to the amazing. Not only did the season feature amazing fight scenes, but we also got to see the evolution of so many characters, like Bakugo and even Endeavour. However, the real icing on the cake was seeing some of our favourite heroes as adults.
To be Hero X
The new To Be Hero X donghua (anime produced in China) dominated much of 2025 with its amazing story. The story takes place in a world where anyone can be a superhero as long as they have trust. Heroes compete for the coveted title of X, which is given to the hero with the highest trust value. The story has an interesting premise: the ever-changing trust value makes the path to becoming a hero full of uncertainty. The anime also does a great job of blending 2D and 3D animation seamlessly throughout the story.
Takopi’s Original Sin
Takopi’s Original Sin single-handedly proved that an anime did not need to be sunshine and rainbows to have an interesting premise. The story follows the titular character Takopi, an alien who arrived on Earth to spread joy and happiness. However, upon arriving, he learns that his mission is much harder than it seemed. It is one of the most tragic, depressing, heartbreaking, and bleak anime series ever. However, its stunning animation and nuanced treatment of bullying and suicide make it an important anime with valuable lessons.
Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-
While Solo Leveling’s first season did win anime of the year during the just-concluded Crunchyroll Anime Awards, it was the second season that clinched the anime’s win. Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- picked up where the previous season left off, with Jinwoo continuing his journey to wake his mother. Fans also got a chance to see the famous Jeju Island raid culminating in an epic clash between Sung Jin-woo and the Ant King. The anime could contend with the best of the best in terms of fight scenes alone, despite having a very basic story.
May I Ask for One Final Thing?
The May I Ask For One Final Thing? Anime did an amazing job of capturing fans’ attention from the trailer alone. The anime centers on Scarlet El Vandimion, a woman who prefers to solve her problems with her fists. However, due to her family’s reputation, she decides to temper her aggression, putting up with her fiancé’s abuse. But after her engagement to the prince is broken off, Scarlet snaps, as all her efforts to shoulder the abuse prove to be for nothing; she once again picks up her leather gloves, ready to put filthy nobles in their place one punch at a time.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity
The anime adaptation of Saka Mikami’s hit manga series The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity has been called the best romance anime in recent years, with many other fans comparing and even ranking it above titles like Horimiya. The story centers around two rival schools: Chidori High, for delinquent boys, and the prestigious Kikyo Girls’ High. It follows the story of Rintaro, a Chidori High student who may look like a delinquent but has a heart of gold. While working in his parents’ shop, he meets Kaoruko, and the two immediately hit it off. However, things get complicated when he learns she is a student of Kikyo High. To make it all worse, she is oblivious to the animosity between the two schools.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
Another hit that dominated this year was The Apothecary Diaries. The series took all the good things that made season one a huge success and made it even better. Many fans praised The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 for focusing more on romance, drama, action, and storytelling. In the inner palace, Maomao continues to investigate mysteries and help out anyone in need, but as a coup forms, she finds herself smack dab in the middle.
DAN DA DAN Season 2
It wouldn’t be possible to talk about popular anime in 2025 without mentioning Science Saru’s brainchild, DAN DA DAN. The anime’s first season dominated in 2024, with multiple nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and the second season seemed to up the ante. The season saw Momo and Okarun do battle against Evil Eye and even pilot Mechs. However, the huge setup at the end of the season left many fans reeling, clamoring for the next season.
