Aeternum Game Studios has officially delayed Aeterna Lucis to 2026 due to the upcoming release of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Part of the delay is also due to Aeternum’s desire to release the game on all “next-gen” platforms at launch.

According to a statement, while the developers initially planned to release the game in September 2025, “after the announcement of Silksong, we are fully aware that our game wouldn’t have the visibility it deserves. Competing with a phenomenon of that scale would not only be unfair to our team’s effort, but also to you, the community, who expect to experience this adventure under the best possible conditions.”

Further, Aeternum say that it doesn’t have “the necessary development kits to ensure a simultaneous release on all next-generation platforms. To be transparent, we believe the best decision for everyone is to step back and bring you Aeterna Lucis at the right time.” This likely means that the game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, since it will already release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Aeterna Lucis will serve as a sequel to Aeterna Noctis, which initially released in 2021. The Steam page describes Aeterna Lucis as follows:

Aeterna Lucis is a Metroidvania focused on fast-paced combat, exploration, and an engaging story. The sequel to Aeterna Noctis follows the steps of its predecessor including a brand new protagonist and a large interconnected world! After the events of the first game, the Queen of Light must stop the destruction of the very existence by challenging the Supreme God Chaos while seeking the location of their old nemesis.
