Nintendo has announced that Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers will not be able to be used to purchase Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games. A new updated Q&A tonight has added a clause specifically regarding Nintendo Switch 2. Previously, these vouchers were eligible on almost all of Nintendo’s games, which saved voucher holders up to $30 off versus purchasing at MSRP.
You can read the official statement below via Nintendo:
“You can view the list of current and future games available to be redeemed with a voucher either in the Nintendo eShop using your Nintendo Switch, or by visiting the appropriate page on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.”
For those unfamiliar, Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are able to be purchased by Nintendo Switch Online members. You receive two vouchers for $99.98, and both can be put toward a list of Nintendo games. Almost all games are eligible for the voucher system, with the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition available for the program. At one point, the Vouchers were removed from Nintendo Switch Online, but Nintendo brought the program back in 2023.
Alongside this announcement, Nintendo also made a statement that My Nintendo Gold Points will be discontinued following March 24, 2025. Both of these shifts are assuredly tied to Nintendo Switch 2, with Nintendo perhaps preparing for a new pricing model of $69.99 alongside most of the industry. While Sony made the switch from $59.99 in 2020 with PlayStation 5, Nintendo has only released one game for $69.99 at this time, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
