Koei Tecmo and PlatinumGames revealed Ninja Gaiden 4, the next major entry in the long-running Ninja Gaiden series. It’s being developed in collaboration with Team NINJA, and it’s planned to launch in fall 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Windows and Steam. Xbox confirms that it will be a day one Xbox Game Pass title.
Ninja Gaiden 4 features two playable characters, the new protagonist Yakumo from the Raven clan and the returning series lead, Ryu Hayabusa. The story centers around the return of the Dark Dragon. Players can expect all-new movesets, challenging levels, and high-speed dynamic action that PlatinumGames is known for.
“Yakumo fights using Bloodraven Form, and when certain conditions are met, he can unleash a move called ‘Bloodbath Kill,’ which instantly bisects enemies in one strike,” producer Yuji Nakao explains. “This time we’ve added large-scale, high-damage attacks with the Bloodraven Form, enabling players to instantly turn the tide of battle in their favor.”
Moreover, Ninja Gaiden 2 receives a full remake in Unreal Engine 5 that honors the original sequel. Momiji, Ayane, and Rachel are still playable, and the game includes a new beginner-friendly “Hero Play Style.” The Ninja Gaiden 2: Black remake is available now for $49.99 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Windows and Steam. It is also available with Xbox Game Pass.

“This simultaneous announcement and same-day release alongside Ninja Gaiden 4 might have caught some people by surprise,” said producer Fumihiko Yasuda in an Xbox interview. “The biggest reason for developing Ninja Gaiden 2: Black was to address the concerns of core fans who might be wondering, ‘What’s going to happen to Ryu Hayabusa?’ We also wanted to give players something to enjoy as they wait for the release of Ninja Gaiden 4. We chose Ninja Gaiden 2 because it stands as one of the most solid action games in the series. We added ‘Black’ to the title to signal to fans that this is the definitive version, much like Ninja Gaiden Black was for the first game.”
Lastly, fans can also look forward to Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound by The Game Kitchen and Koei Tecmo. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound offers a new 2D experience that promises to blend the gameplay of the classic entries with the depth and intense action from the 3D games. The game follows Kenji Mozu as he faces a demonic threat endangering the Hayabusa Village. It will release in summer 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
