PlayStation and Team Asobi have announced a new update for Astro Bot, titled “Winter Wonder.” The update will release tomorrow, December 12, at 6 PM PDT/9 PM EDT. According to the PlayStation Blog, “you should expect a fun-filled level with shiny presents, a good dose of jingle bells, and brand-new special bots to add to your crew!” In order to play the level, players must have beaten the game first.
Astro Bot is available now on PlayStation 5. Currently, Astro Bot has a 95 top critic average on Opencritic. The statistic comes from 148 critic reviews. On Metacritic, Astro Bot has universal acclaim as well, with 137 critic reviews and a 94 aggregate score.
Recently, Sony released its financial results for the three months ended on September 30, 2024, revealing that PlayStation 5 sales have topped 65.6 million units. In addition, Astro Bot reached 1.5 million copies sold on PlayStation 5 as of November 3. Astro Bot sales will likely be updated in the next quarterly financial results release early next year. Additionally, sales numbers for the PS5 Pro were not disclosed, considering the console just released this week on November 7.
Despite Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki’s recent comments on PlayStation original IPs, it’s clear that Astro Bot is an IP that should be fostered for years to come. The game has already become a trending topic on Twitter and other social media platforms as well. This is due to Astro Bot’s many easter eggs and cameos from other first-party and third-party games.
