In January 2024, Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that he was “wrapping up” his YouTube channel. He’s still committed to creating and developing new games in the future, however. His work on Super Smash Bros Ultimate ended with the release of the Kingdom Hearts Sora amiibo on February 16, 2024.
If Sakurai is working on a new game, it will likely release on the Nintendo Switch successor. A reveal for the new console will happen within the current fiscal year, according to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. This means that the reveal will happen before the end of March 2025.
Earlier this month, Nintendo released the version 13.0.3 update for Super Smash Bros Ultimate along with patch notes. The update primarily fixes a bug that causes Global Smash Power to not return to its appropriate levels during network disruptions in an online match.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate was released on December 8, 2018, for Nintendo Switch. Two Fighter’s Pass expansions were released, adding a total of twelve new fighters to the game. The game’s roster is dream-like, with characters like Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, Joker from Persona 5, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and many more. Over one hundred stages and one thousand music tracks are featured in the game alongside its 89 fighters.
