Masahiro Sakurai Ending YouTube Content Sometime in 2024

The legendary game developer is set to end his original content this year.

Masahiro Sakurai announced today that his YouTube channel will end sometime in 2024. While the future of his videos after he ends production is not confirmed, he will continue making content until further notice. Many are speculating that this could imply he doesn’t have time for creating content anymore alongside work, potentially for the next Super Smash Bros. game. Regardless of the reason, Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games has been a very insightful and enjoyable series we’re glad we got to watch.

For those unfamiliar with the popular game developer, Mashiro Sakurai is the creator of Super Smash Bros., directing each game in the series. In addition to Smash Bros., he also created Kirby at HAL Laboratory when he was only 19. Throughout his career, he developed beloved titles like Kid Icarus: UprisingKirby Air Ride, and, of course, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s unclear what he is set to do next, but he stated that he is “still creating games for the time being.”

It’s a bit late to be saying this, but…Happy New Year! I’m planning to wrap up Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games sometime this year. Until then, I hope you’ll stay tuned!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launched for the Nintendo Switch on December 8, 2018. The game brought back every character ever introduced in the first four games of the series, in addition to adding newcomers. After launch, a total of twelve different DLC fighters were added. Some of the most wanted characters ever, like Sora, Sephiroth, and Steve, were added. Additionally, characters from Nintendo properties that missed the launch roster joined as DLC, like Pyra & Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If you’re still yearning for more SSBU content, Nintendo just announced new spirits are joining the game later this week
