Sony Has Quietly Increased the Price of the DualSense Controller Almost Four Years After Launch

    A puzzling decision.

Sony quietly increased the price of all DualSense controllers by $5 overnight, with no official announcement or reasoning behind the change. It’s been over four years since the controller hit the market alongside PlayStation 5, but it seems that Sony is keen on raising the price ahead of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

All retailers have now adjusted to this price point, with PS Direct also reflecting the change. The Midnight Black and White controllers are now $74.99, while all other colors are $79.99. It’s quite the contrast from Microsoft’s controllers, which you can frequently find on sale for $40.

Many online have expressed concern about the change, citing ongoing stick drift issues that have plagued the DualSense since launch. It’s not uncommon for the controller to start drifting after just a few months of use. Additionally, the triggers can loosen overtime due to the Adaptive feature, depending on how hard you press. Sony has a one-year warranty on the controller that can sometimes be used to replace these parts, but the warranty process is extremely tedious and a slug to get through.

Tomorrow is set to be a big day for Sony, as the company is set to reveal the PlayStation 5 Pro for the very first time. Mark Cerny will host a nine-minute presentation focused “on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology.” It is expected that the PS5 Pro will launch this Holiday in the $599-699 price range.
