SEGA and Angry Birds developer Rovio have announced Sonic Rumble, a new 32-player battle royale game for Android and iOS. A closed beta test will be held from May 24 to 26, giving players their first chance to play the game before launch.
Sonic Rumble is the first jointly developed title between SEGA and Rovio following Rovio’s acquisition. With Sonic Rumble, SEGA hopes to expand the presence of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise in the mobile gaming market, which Rovio has expertise in.
Sonic Rumble Closed Beta Test
Sign-ups for the Sonic Rumble closed beta test will be available until May 19 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. The test itself will be conducted from May 24 from 5:00 p.m. to May 26 at 8:00 p.m. PDT. Within this period, the test will be conducted in separate play sessions:
- 1st play session: May 24 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT
- 2nd play session: May 25 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT
- 3rd play session: May 25 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT
- 4th play session: May 26 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT
- 5th play session: May 26 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT

In Sonic Rumble, players will take control of toy figures to compete in thrilling 32-player battle royale challenges, racing against each other to collect the most rings and prove themselves to be the fastest in the toybox. With iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe available for customization, players can create their own unique avatars and dive into the action-packed gameplay.
At the January 31 State of Play, SEGA announced Sonic x Shadow Generations, a remaster of Sonic Generations with new content starring Shadow the Hedgehog. The remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this fall.
Sonic Mania Plus is finally available now on Android and iOS worldwide, exclusively through the Netflix Games service. The game is also available now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
Lastly, Keanu Reeves has been reportedly cast as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The upcoming movie is set to be released on December 20, 2024 in theaters around the world.
