The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Keanu Reeves has been cast as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The upcoming movie is set to be released on December 20, 2024. Shadow was first teased at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Reeves has long been a major fan cast for Shadow, so this news likely will come as extremely exciting to many.
This news follows assets that were shown last week at Cinema Con from the upcoming film. Many reports were posted, detailing that Eggman has “let himself go,” implying he’s more akin to his video game counterpart. We’ll likely be receiving a new trailer for the movie within the next month or so, depending on when the marketing campaign kicks off.
Below, you can read more from The Hollywood Reporter, which reportedly has multiple sources confirming the casting:
“Keanu Reeves is speeding along to another franchise, with the John Wick star heading to Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He will be voicing the popular character named Shadow, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.”
Keanu Reeves is no stranger to voicing video game characters. He most recently starred as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. He was a main character and starred through a majority of the campaign, accompanying V, the protagonist. With Sonic the Hedgehog 3, he joins Cyberpunk 2077 co-star Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles. Elba voiced Solomon Reed in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
The six-episode Knuckles series starring Idris Elba is set to be released on April 26. Be sure to stay tuned for the official announcement of this exciting casting.
