Masahiro Sakurai Moves On From Super Smash Bros Ultimate After Sora Amiibo

One of Sakurai’s latest tweets thanks fans for their support over the past five and half years, as his work is done with Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The release of the Sora amiibo means all 94 fighters have been made into an amiibo figure, completing the base and DLC rosters. To commemorate the release of the Sora amiibo, Nintendo released a graphic containing all 94 amiibo figures on Twitter

The latest Super Smash Bros entry was released on December 8, 2018, for Nintendo Switch. Two Fighter’s Pass expansions were released, adding a total of twelve new fighters to the game. The game’s roster is dream-like, with characters like Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, Joker from Persona 5, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and many more. Over one hundred stages and one thousand music tracks are featured in the game alongside its 89 fighters.

In 2024, Super Smash Bros series director Masahiro Sakurai is “wrapping up” his YouTube channel. He’s committed to creating and developing new games in the future, so he may be working on an all-new game right now.
