Stellar Blade Rated by the ESRB

Launching on April 26 for PS5.

Upcoming action RPG Stellar Blade has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ahead of the game’s April 26 launch. As previously announced, Stellar Blade will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive game.

Stellar Blade is developed by Shift Up and directed by CEO Kim Hyung Tae. The new action game was inspired by NieR: Automata and Bayonetta, with a strong emphasis on a single-player story and intricate combo system. Pre-orders for Stellar Blade went live on February 7, just one week after the game was showcased at State of Play.

Stellar Blade Rated M by the ESRB

Unsurprisingly, Stellar Blade is rated M by the ESRB due to gore and suggestive themes, including the provocative clothing for protagonist EVE. The game is also rated 18+ in South Korea, the region’s equivalent to the mature rating.

Here’s the ESRB rating’s description for Stellar Blade, via the ESRB’s official website:

This is an action-adventure RPG in which players assume the role of a super soldier battling an invading alien force. From a third-person perspective, players explore apocalyptic environments and complete mission objectives while battling enemies (e.g., alien creatures, humanoid) in melee-style combat. Players use blades, machine guns, and laser blasters to kill enemies. Battles are fast paced, highlighted by sword slashes, large explosions, and realistic gunfire.

Blood-splatter effects occur frequently as enemy creatures are slashed and dismembered. Some cutscenes and battle sequences depict close-up images of impalement, dismemberment, and decapitation. The game depicts some female characters in revealing costumes (e.g., deep cleavage; skintight, flesh-toned body suits), with breasts that jiggle during combat. The word “sh*t” appears in the game.

Lastly, Stellar Blade launches on April 26, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Stellar Blade will be sold physically and digitally worldwide, thanks to PlayStation’s second-party agreement as publisher of the new action game.
