The March 2024 issue of Asahi Shimbun’s Nemuki+ magazine confirms that legendary manga author Junji Ito will launch a new one-shot manga for the Tomie series. This new one-shot manga will be titled Tomie: Control.
Junji Ito has built a cult following through his incredible works like Tomie and Uzumaki, with the latter receiving a new anime series. His works have also inspired games such as WORLD OF HORROR. Ito is returning to Tomie for the first time in several years for a brand-new story involving the femme fatale.
New Tomie One-Shot Manga – Tomie: Control
The Tomie: Control one-shot manga will be released in a new issue of the Nemuki+ magazine on April 12, according to Anime News Network. Unsurprisingly, story details involving the new one-shot manga were not revealed, so fans in Japan will need to wait for the upcoming Nemuki+ issue.
In a November 2023 episode of Bokeh Game Studio’s Golden Hour, Junji Ito and Keiichiro Toyama sat down together to discuss elements of mystery and horror in their respective works. The two creators also elaborated on the story telling process and themes of their works. For example, Ito started with a spiral theme for Uzumaki before diving deeper into cosmic horror. Ito also notes that Hibari Comics and H.P Lovecraft serve as inspirations for his works.
VIZ Media publishes the Tomie manga series in the west, with a Tomie Complete Deluxe Edition now available at multiple retailers. Here’s an overview of the manga from VIZ Media:
Tomie Kawakami is a femme fatale with long black hair and a beauty mark just under her left eye. She can seduce nearly any man, and drive them to murder as well, even though the victim is often Tomie herself. While one lover seeks to keep her for himself, another grows terrified of the immortal succubus. But soon they realize that no matter how many times they kill her, the world will never be free of Tomie.
