    Bravely Default Celebrates 11th Anniversary With New Artwork

    More than a decade has already flew by.

    Square Enix released new artwork for Bravely Default as the Nintendo 3DS RPG celebrates its 11th anniversary. The new artwork depicts Ringabel and Edea, two of Bravely Default’s main party members.

    The first Bravely Default game released on October 11, 2012 in Japan as Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. Bravely Default was a quick success and led to development of Bravely Second: End Layer, which released on April 23, 2015 in Japan. These titles would help serve as a launch pad for Team Asano (Octopath Traveler, LIVE A LIVE remake) at Square Enix, and the company celebrates the original game’s 11th anniversary today.

    On Twitter, Square Enix’s latest Bravely Default artwork wishes fans a happy 11th anniversary for their continued support of the series. Ringabel and Edea are depicted in the new artwork with a bounty of flower petals to mark the ocassion. Series producer Tomoya Asano thanks everyone for the support and notes that “preparations” are still be made. Asano does not elaborate on what those preparations could be for, but previous teases suggested that a Bravely Default remaster for Nintendo Switch was being considered. Square Enix has not officially announced that a remaster is in development, however.

    This past summer, network servers for Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer were permanently taken offline on June 30, 2023. Online features such as Net Friend Invites and sending Nemeses are no longer be available in both games. However, both titles are playable to the very end, and StreetPass functionally remains available. Asano thanked fans for their continued support of the Bravely series as online support for these Nintendo 3DS titles end. 

    Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer are available now for Nintendo 3DS. Lastly, Bravely Default II, the latest Bravely title in the series, is available now for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
