How to Use the Spin Dash in Sonic Frontiers

    Sonic's iconic ability has returned.

Are you enjoying the “Sonic’s Birthday Bash” update for Sonic Frontiers? As you may know, this update gives Sonic the ability to use his signature Spin Dash, but this skill isn’t available as soon as you open the game. Furthermore, it should be noted that this ability shouldn’t be confused with Sonic’s Drop Dash, which has been available to use since the game’s launch. Here’s how to use the Spin Dash in Sonic Frontiers

How to Unlock the Spin Dash in Sonic Frontiers

With this new update, you may notice the addition of “Action Chain Challenges”. These are scattered across every map in Sonic Frontiers (except Rhea Island). If you wish to use the spin dash, you will not only need to complete these challenges but also obtain an S rank in every one of them.

To achieve high scores in these challenges, you need to build up your score multiplier and maintain it. You can easily maintain the multiplier by boosting, but this will not be enough on its own to build up your score. Numerous actions can add to your score, such as using springs or defeating enemies. However, not every action is equal. Some things will reward you with more points, so you will want to keep an eye out for easy enemies and rainbow rings.

An Action Chain Challenge in Sonic Frontiers

Once you learn how to earn high scores, it should be fairly easy to earn an S rank in these challenges. Despite this, it will be a bit time-consuming. There are ten of these challenges on each island, making for 40 Action Chain Challenges in total. The moment you earn an S rank in all of these challenges, the Spin Dash will be available for you to use.

    Using the Spin Dash

To charge Sonic’s Spin Dash, you need to come to a complete stop. Once you are idle, crouch (the O/B/A button depending on which platform you are playing on) and repeatedly press the left trigger. This will result in a more powerful burst of speed. You can also activate the Spin Dash mid-air by simply pressing the left trigger.

In addition, you can extend the Spind Dash by holding down the left trigger, but beware, as this uses your boost gauge. Pressing or holding the left trigger while running will roll Sonic into a ball and give you a quick burst of speed.
