Rumor: various Grand Theft Auto remakes are in development for consoles and PC including Switch

*Update – 8/12* Rumors are suggesting that a Red Dead Redemption remaster is being planned by Rockstar. The sales of the GTA remakes are vital to the plans for the remaster.

According to two recent reports by Kotaku and Gematsu, various Grand Theft Auto remakes are currently in development at Rockstar. The games being remade are Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas. The rumor suggests that these remakes are being developed in Unreal Engine with “new and old graphics” being taken into account. The user interface in the games are updated while still maintaining the signature style of the series. Rockstar Dundee (Ruffian Games) is leading this remake project alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Grand Theft Auto V.

Grand Theft Auto will make its debut on Switch with these remakes alongside releases on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android. Additionally, the remakes are reportedly releasing around October or November. It’s possible that the PC and mobile releases could slip into 2022 though. All three games will be released in a single package or purchased separately. Although this is considered a rumor, sources within the industry at large are corroborating the report today. It’s worth taking a grain of salt but the chances of these remakes being real are very high.
