Dragon Quest VII Remake Reportedly in the Works

Square Enix is reportedly working on a remake of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, according to internal documents and early marketing material acquired by MP1st. It’s unclear how extensive the remake could be, but a supposed internal roadmap from Square Enix points toward Dragon Quest VII Remake releasing in early 2026, either before the fiscal year ends or shortly after the next one begins.

Moreover, MP1st reportedly saw a brief teaser of Dragon Quest VII Remake with the game’s logo against a cloudy background. It’s suggested to be for internal use or future marketing material, but no further details were shared.

In terms of what’s official, Square Enix will release Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake on October 30 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. Pre-orders are available now for $59.99, a Collector’s Edition will be available in the Square Enix Store, and the game will be a game-key card title in Japan.

Players with save data from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will receive the Marvelous Makeover Kit featuring a dog suit in Dragon Quest I and a cat suit in Dragon Quest II. Additionally, pre-orders for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake include the Trouble-Free Travel Kit as an additional bonus.
