EA Sports UFC 6 Review – A Fight Night Thriller

Unlike other sports gaming franchises, EA Sports UFC is a series that aims to further refine and evolve itself by taking its time in development and returning with some fresh ideas and gameplay changes. EA Sports UFC 6 arrives nearly three years following its predecessor, and it offers some of the most engaging content and gameplay I’ve experienced since the UFC Undisputed series all those years ago. This game also managed to reignite my interest and appreciation for UFC while catching me up to speed on what the current generation of MMA legends have shown in the octagon, both in footage and in-game.

How did EA Sports UFC 6 get me back into the game? Pun aside, EA Sports UFC 6 manages to hit most of the areas I was looking for when it comes to an MMA fighting game, including depth in its content and gameplay systems. Someone getting into a UFC game for the first time in several years will have a lot to pick at, including a narrative-driven career mode and one for your own created fighter, similar to WWE’s own wrestling games. EA Sports UFC 6 is clearly an iterative game following up on 2023’s UFC 5, but with that as the expectation, UFC 6 still presents a lot of value that UFC fans will appreciate.

There’s A Lot of Game in EA Sports UFC 6

After a UFC octagon-infused tutorial of the game’s controls and creating your own fighter for your online profile, EA Sports UFC 6 lets you dive into whichever mode you want, including online multiplayer, the career mode, and the Hall of Legends mode to name a few. If you’re coming off of a modern-day wrestling game like WWE 2K26, then the overall layout of this game should feel somewhat familiar. For single-player oriented folks, the career mode definitely stands out, and I certainly recommend starting here to get the basic feel of combat down before heading to multiplayer.

The Legacy is a story-driven career mode that puts you in the gloves of Chris Carter, a fictional MMA fighter whose about to have their big break in the UFC. Carter wants to live up to this father’s wrestling legacy by being a UFC superstar, but he has obstacles in his way, including himself and his BelieveMMA gym partner Danny Lopez. The story begins with Carter in a UFC pre-match conference as he attempts to answer a rather distasteful question alluding to nepotism regarding his UFC career, but this was just a teaser of what happens later on. Instead, the game takes you back to basics two years prior, as Carter and Lopez train with their coach at the BelieveMMA gym. Their collective goal is to transform the gym into a world-renowned stage for up-and-coming fighters, but individual interests can prove to be contentious.

You progress the Legacy as you would in a typical UFC career mode, but there are narrative twists and turns here. Not only will you train as Chris and improve his overall fighting prowess, fitness, and abilities, but you will be able to make important choices along the way that will affect how Chris’ reputation in the world of MMA grows. The Legacy combines management systems and UFC fighting game mechanics together with a main story that doesn’t move the needle in terms of story writing, but still keeps you interested in how Chris evolves. The week-by-week management system is simple but robust enough to make you have to think about what’s optimal for Chris, such as training reps, learning new moves, conducting interviews, and building up by engaging with Chris’ fan base online.

Besides the Legacy, you can take your created fighter into career mode and online multiplayer to rise up the ranks in ranked matches and/or earn rewards by raising up your Gym Level and completing numerous in-game challenges, such as landing a number of body strikes or completing matches with a certain fighter. There are well over 100 playable fighters in UFC 6, which can be unlocked by playing the game’s content naturally and increasing your Gym Level. Similarly, you can level up the Punch Card, which acts like a Season Pass with a reward track.

If you play the Legacy or the standard career mode at your own pace, you will be rewarded handsomely over time, but there’s also another aspect to consider when playing other content with your favorite fighters. Aside from your Gym Level, the Gym feature lets you focus progression on specific fighters to level them up and progress their own individual reward tracks. You can assign a trainer to level up your selected fighter while you play other content, so you could progress multiple fighters at once if you really put some effort.

There’s also the Hall of Legends mode, which highlights the careers and backgrounds of UFC legends Max Holloway, Alex Pereira and Weili Zhang with documentary-style snippets and playable challenges. Although the Hall of Legends mode is only a few hours worth of content at best, the mode is still packed with insightful content that will likely make you a fan of the featured fighters. You’ll navigate each fighter’s Hall of Legends to replay and interact with their most pivotal moments in their careers. By completing objectives based on the actual events of the real-life fights, you’ll get some rare rewards tied to those moments, such as fight gear and emotes.

The Fight Week Hub rounds out the game’s key modes. Fight Week is evergreen content based on real-life UFC events, allowing you to go down the card to make picks on who you think will win their respective matches. In addition, you can complete challenges and contracts on various difficulties to earn free in-game currency and other unlockable rewards. After completing the Legacy and career modes, Fight Week is going to be the content that you keep coming back to regularly alongside online multiplayer.

Evolved, Hard-Hitting Combat

If you’re a new player, the Legacy is where you’ll likely get the basics of the controls down-packed. You’ll learn how to do combos, alternate strikes, perform clinches and takedowns, and much more just by playing training sessions. Outside of matches, you can adjust the controls and overall difficulty to your liking through various in-game options. There’s also an Assisted feature that will simplify controls and perform combos with basic button presses. On the other hand, if you’ve played UFC Undisputed or any other UFC game from the past 10 years, the combat system of EA Sports UFC 6 should feel right at home.

The new Flow State mechanic finally brings that adrenaline factor to MMA fighting games. Flow State builds up through combat, and when the gauge is full, you can enter Flow State to heighten your fighter’s unique abilities and traits. Each Fighter’s Flow State is accompanied by Flow Boosts and passive effects that will trigger under certain conditions, such as evading with a sway or hitting a long range punch. Flow State makes each fighter stand out, and I enjoy how technical the game can get while still being approachable. With a diverse roster with legends like Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Conor McGregor, there’s going to be a fighter that suits your playstyle, whether its a submission expert or leg sweeper.

Stance changing is still an important aspect of UFC 6, but there are options that make it easier to manage and get a good handle of. Orthodox controls ensure that button inputs remain in the orthodox layout after switching, and the opposite applies when southpaw controls are enabled. Time Dilation and Stand-Up Assist features will slow down key gameplay moments and provide striking and defensive control assists in offline play, preparing and easing you into the combat system before turning the dial up back to unassisted settings. There’s a lot to appreciate with these features, but if you’ve moderately played any UFC game in the past, you likely won’t need to toggle them.

Overall, EA Sports UFC 6 has a very engaging and deep combat system that lives up to the intense and technical nature of the in-ring product. It’s definitely the best combat sports gameplay out there thanks to its hard-hitting feel and new features. Flow State adds a new dynamic that rewards you for your strategies in each round, and it caters toward certain fighting styles and play styles alike. UFC 6 doesn’t necessarily revolutionize the gameplay that UFC fans come to know and expect, but the new additions and tweaks go a long way in making this game have a strong core gameplay system.

EA Sports UFC 6 is a Top-Class Sports Game in 2026

EA Sports UFC 6

EA Sports UFC 6 didn’t need much to become one of the best sports games of the year, but it certainly had what it needed and more to reach that praise in my eyes. Surprisingly, EA Sports UFC 6 respects you by offering a lot of content without needing to worry about additional DLC or purchases. All the aforementioned modes are there and waiting to be played, and you’re rewarded for playing them with unlockable cosmetics and fighters. Sure, there are some UFC legends that are still missing in UFC 6, but the launch roster is seriously stacked. The “World’s Most Dangerous Man” Ken Shamrock is there, too, so the UFC and pro wrestling fan in me is really pleased. If there’s one gripe I had to point out, it’s the lack of a PC port here. I think there’s no harm in bringing EA Sports UFC 6 to Steam, especially when other EA games are there.

EA Sports UFC 6 brings a solid foundation that the series can build off of even further. I’d love to see more Hall of Legends content, especially with the sheer wealth of video content that the UFC vault has by this point. There’s also untapped potential in expanding that mode with more matches, similar to WWE 2K’s Showcase mode. That’s just my suggestion, but I think EA Sports UFC 6 is a really feature-rich and realized sports-fighting game that can go unrivaled this year, especially with its fun gameplay system. It’s also notable that the Frostbite engine isn’t holding back UFC 6 either. Instead, the engine allows this game to thrive with the Flow State mechanic and other advancements. It’s safe to say that we have a really good UFC game in our hands.

There’s so much to dissect in EA Sports UFC 6, but if you bought the Ultimate Edition, you can get right into the game before launch on June 19 with early access. The Ultimate Edition also grants you the Fighter Pass with immediate Ken Shamrock and Randy Couture unlocks and six additional fighters down the line, an Expansion Pass for two upcoming DLCs, the VIP Pass, and a slew of unlocks. Fortunately, there’s nothing in the Ultimate Edition that’s glaring or anti-consumer in my eyes, as it’s more fighters, cosmetics, and content on top of the load you’re already getting.

Disclaimer: EA provided a PlayStation 5 key of EA Sports UFC 6 Ultimate Edition for review purposes.

Street Fighter 6 DLC Character Yasmine Launches August 3

Capcom has released a new gameplay trailer for upcoming Street Fighter 6 DLC character Yasmine, who is included with Street Fighter 6 Fighter Pass 4. Street Fighter 6 Fighter Pass 4 kicks off on August 3 with the release of Yasmine, followed by Arjun in fall 2026, Tifa from Final Fantasy VII Revelation in early 2027, and Bosch in spring 2027.

Here’s a breakdown of Yasmine, courtesy of Capcom:

Hailing from the Philippines, Yasmine learned how to fight alongside her Kuya (older brother) under the guidance of her Lolo (grandfather). Following the sudden disappearance of her brother, Yasmine put down her Karambit knife until FooTube videos of a certain French supermodel inspired her to cut a path to her lost sibling. On her journey of discovery, Yasmine will use various high-speed Eskrima techniques such as:

      • Daloy ng Tubig: a quick forward-moving knife attack that can set-up or extend combos
      • Alon: a follow-up attack from Daloy ng Tubig where Yasmine lashes out with a multi-slice hit that ends differently depending upon the strength used for the attack, with successful strikes placing Yasmine in a powered-up state (Bayani Mode)
      • Talim ng Hangin: Yasmine spins forward in a low sweep that can either close distance with opponents or bait out their attacks based upon the strength used, with successful hits placing her in Bayani Mode
      • Mukha ng Langit: Yasmine leaps into a front flip that can mix up opponents with either a forward swipe or an upside-down spinning back hit
      • Lipad ng Agila: a multi-hit attack where Yasmine leaps into the air in a flurry of kicks
      • Pangil sa Likuran: a swirling projectile that lashes out at varying speeds so Yasmine can chase down and open up her opponent
      • Hiwa ng Kalangitan: Yasmine’s Level 1 Super Art sees her kick her opponent into the air, then slam them back down before transitioning into Bayani Mode
      • Nakatagong Lakas: During Yasmine’s Level 2 Super Art she focuses her energy for a limited time boost that allows her to use special moves while staying in Bayani Mode. She can also use Linya ng Liwanag during this Super Art where she dashes past an opponent and attacks them from behind.
      • Pamumukadkad ng Sampaguita: Yasmine’s Level 3 Super Art where she spins an opponent and gathers energy before pulverizing them in an all-out attack

Yasmine will be unlocked and ready to cut class (and her opponents) on August 3 for players who own or purchase the Year 4 Character Pass or Year 4 Ultimate Pass. Yasmine’s Outfit 1 showcases her in Eskrima combat attire, while Outfit 2 depicts Yasmine in her school uniform between bouts. Outfit 2 can be unlocked by maxing out her Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or with Fighter Coins.

Capcom recently announced that Street Fighter 6 surpassed 7 million copies sold worldwide. 1 million copies of Street Fighter 6 were sold since March 31, 2026, and to celebrate reaching 7 million copies sold, Capcom released a new illustration featuring Cammy.

Street Fighter 6 is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Unreal Engine 5.8 Brings Lumen Lite to Switch 2 with 60 FPS Support

Unreal Engine 5.8

During its State of Unreal event in Chicago, Epic Games released the latest version of its flagship Unreal Engine, Unreal Engine 5.8, with major performance boosts and Lumen Lite for Nintendo Switch 2. Lumen Lite, included with full release of Unreal Engine 5.8, brings significant performance gains in Nintendo Switch games thanks to various optimizations.

Lumen is the default global illumination and reflections system of Unreal Engine 5. Lumen calculates light bouncing in real time, allowing developers to focus resources elsewhere instead of having to bake lightmaps. Lumen Lite runs twice as fast as Lumen, allowing global illumination to run at 60 FPS on Switch 2.

Unreal Engine VP of engineering Simon Tourangeau explained, “Lumen Lite is designed to preserve much of the visual impact at a significantly lower GPU cost. That makes Lumen viable where it wasn’t before, including on Switch 2. And that work is already helping drive further nanite optimization efforts for the platform.”

Fortnite is one of the games built in Unreal Engine 5, and it will likely be one of the first to reap the benefits of the improved engine on Nintendo Switch 2. Epic Games also confirmed that Fortnite will collaborate with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Vampire Survivors, Control Resonant, and Phantom Blade Zero

More details about Unreal Engine 5.8 can be found at Epic Games’ official announcement post.

Interview: Fallout 76 Devs on Infestations Update, Potential Switch 2 Support, and What’s Coming Next in 2026

Fallout 76 Infestations Interview

During Summer Game Fest: Play Days 2026, we had the opportunity to speak with two key Fallout 76 developers: Jon Rush, Creative Director, and Bill LaCoste, Production Director. Our chat goes through the recent Infestations update, upcoming PS5/XSX updates, a potential Nintendo Switch 2 release, and even hints at what’s next for Fallout 76. Thank you to Jon and Bill for their time and insights, and thank you to Bethesda for the opportunity! Please enjoy.

The recent Infestations update also marked the beginning of Season 25, Appalachia Under Siege. How has the team thought of new ideas for content and features to keep Fallout 76 fresh and exciting for players?

JR: That’s a great question. I mean, we’ve got plans for content for years down the road, and where those ideas come from, it comes from playing the game. We’ll play the game and see things that we think the game can use, and also by being very mindful of player feedback, not only in what players say and what they post in videos, but also in how they play the game and speak to us that way.

The good part about working in Bethesda Game Studios is that there’s no shortage of great ideas, so we kind of take that combination of ingredients and do our best to space that out across the roadmap for years down the road. It’s a very organic process. Emotional decisions are based around, like, “I want, I like, I need.”

Whenever these ideas come up, how does the team get together and talk about them? Is there a process of bringing new ideas to the table, or is it just, “Hey, we’re in a meeting, I had this great idea, and we talked about it?”

JR: I’ll usually get with Bill, I’ll get with Carl, our lead designer, and we will talk through some features, like, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if some places in Appalachia that players don’t really go to much anymore were taken over, and give them a reason to go back there and fight for four-star legendaries?”

And I’ll be like, “Yeah, what would that look like? How does that work?” Then once we kind of nail down sort of a back-of-the-box summary, we take that to the rest of the team: “Hey, do you have any ideas to add on this? What’s not working? What do you think is going to go wrong with this? What problems are there with this thing that we need to solve?”

Putting something together, getting it in the game, trying it out, feeling it, and making adjustments from there, that’s really how we’ve always made new features. Anything from fishing to infestations, to raids, like Gleaming Depths. Gosh, we made a Gleaming Depths experience video in like three days. Like, here’s what the experience would feel like going into a raid. It was this canned video, and people from there were just like, “Yes, and what if? Yes, and how about?” And the feature just grew from there.

BC: One thing that doesn’t get talked about a lot, too, is that the company has a game jam every year for a week. So we get a lot of ideas. People who download the build start making their own stuff. They’re like, “This is really cool.” They put together a video, everybody watches it, and they’re like, “Hey, that’s actually a really good idea.” Sometimes the thing’s done, so we try to figure out a way to get them in.

We get a lot of ideas from the community, a lot of ideas from how we play the game and how we interact with the game. We move through feedback, and also sometimes, again, it’s just us talking in the break room. Like, “Hey, I was playing last night.” He’s like, “You know what? I think what’s missing is this.” And people are like, “Oh, actually, yeah, that would be really cool.” We figure out ways to get that into a pitch.

When you talk about process, yeah, there’s a process of getting the pitch together, reviewing it with stakeholders, and then going through the kickoff process and getting scoping around everything. So yeah, there is a process once we get past that initial thought phase.

Building on Infestations, would this be considered the next step up for Fallout 76’s endgame content?

JR: This is an additional way for players to get four-star legendaries, right? Something that we have seen from player feedback is that they were looking for a way, other than doing complete new gaps and the occasional encounter, to get four-star legendaries. So we wanted to offer them that chance, as well as the opportunity for unique four-star legendaries that they can only get through Infestations.

It’s not meant to replace raids. It’s not meant to be a raid number two type of experience. Those types of experiences are separate, and we have plans for things like that down the road. This was a way, like fishing, to get people to rediscover parts of the map that maybe they haven’t been to for a while, and have reasons to go to these places.

Are there any plans for content additions and updates in future seasons for Infestations?

JR: Absolutely. Something that we’ve seen with Infestations right away was that they are too easy for our players. They’re getting through them in like a minute, which is unfortunate, because the 40-ish unique locations that we have chosen were chosen because it gives our AI, for the enemy types they encounter, opportunities for different strategies in these spaces.

The problem is that right now, they’re not living long enough to be able to employ any of these strategies. They’re coming in, and they’re like, “Yeah, we’re here!”

So, we have plans for the next update to make them much, much harder, and then we have plans for the patch after that to slow the experience down so that more players have a chance to get there and participate in the Infestation. We don’t want that sense of FOMO. We want this to be a fun experience that you do with your friends. You’re not worried about missing out. We don’t want that FOMO at all. So that’s all coming up.

Public testing for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of Fallout 76 will begin later this month. Will there be selectable performance options for those versions? Will these versions leverage platform-specific features such as 3D audio or haptic triggers? And what can players overall on these new platforms look forward to?

BC: Yeah, initially we’re just going to be making sure that we’ve got these things running and they’re on there, and then we’re going to be optimizing later in the future for each of those individual platforms. Right now, we’re just super excited to get PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as Xbox Series X and S builds there.

I would say on PlayStation 5 Pro, for example, you’ll be able to play at 1440p, 60 frames a second, same with Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X at 4K, 60 frames a second. Those experiences are really good. But now that we’ve got those separated out, and then the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds have their own platform, we’ll be able to optimize better in the future.

That’s what we’re looking to do, just have more expansion into that in the future, making sure that we’re adding better fidelity even for the current-gen hardware. And yeah, just make the game better. So we have to start at the first point, which is like, okay, we’re good. We have it working. It’s all there. It’s ready to go. It’s performant. Now we’re good. Now we can embark on some additional stuff.

We’ve actually got three or four different things in terms of graphical fidelity and performance in the pipeline.

That’s awesome to hear. I guess speaking of platforms, has Bethesda and the Fallout 76 team considered developing a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game?

BC: Not really. I think it’s come up a few times, but right now we’re just focused on new content for the game itself. If the opportunity arises where we think it makes sense, then yeah, we’ll probably investigate. But right now, no plans.

Finally, beyond Infestations, what can players look forward to in the second half of 2026 for Fallout 76?

BC: Oh, that’s a good question. He’s got a couple of things. One of them I’ve been hounding him about for a while. We love our puns around here. So yes, very much so. It’ll scratch the itch of some players, I think.

JR: Coming from the public test server and coming out later toward the end of 2026, what would the wasteland look like without a CAMP pet following you around the wasteland, adventuring with you, exploring with you, fighting with you?

You can tell it to sit, tell it to stay, you can tell it to speak, you can tell it to come, you can tell it to guard, you can tell it to kill. It can level up, and it can get its own perks. We’re talking dogs, cats, radhogs, and deathclaws. That’s coming later this year.

Fallout 76 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are due out this Summer.
