Nintendo has officially announced Metroid Ravenous, the next major entry in the 2D Metroid series. Metroid Ravenous will launch on January 28, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, and pre-orders will open in the Nintendo eShop later today.
In addition, there will be a new Metroid Ravenous amiibo lineup with individual Samus and Chozo Statue figures at launch. The third amiibo in the lineup, Samus (Metroid Suit), will be bundled with the Metroid Ravenous Special Edition, which includes the game and a steel game case.
Ravenous will follow after the events of 2021’s Metroid Dread, which is already available now on Nintendo Switch. Those looking to catch up on the series before the next entry can also play Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid, and more via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
The most recent mainline entry in the Metroid franchise, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, is available now for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition includes two different graphics options, Quality Mode and Performance Mode, which output at 4K 60 FPS and 1080p 120 FPS, respectively. Both of these modes support HDR, and there’s even the option to play with mouse controls with Joy-Con 2.
Final Weapon reviewed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and gave it a 4.5/5 score, noting that the game’s “overall approach to gameplay and the narrative does a great job of evolving the series while staying true to what made it special in the first place.”
