Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have released Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness for the GameCube Classics – Nintendo Switch Online app for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Like other Nintendo GameCube titles on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness was initially released for the Nintendo GameCube in March 2005. As shown in the previously released trailer, the game features elements similar to Pokémon Colosseum and a new story where the villainous group, Cipher, is utilizing Shadow Pokémon to commit dastardly acts. It heavily features Shadow Lugia as a major opposing force to the protagonist, who is named Michael by default.
Recently, The Pokémon Company revealed the newest entry in the mainline franchise: Pokémon Winds and Waves, which will release in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2. The first trailer for both games teases new variants of Pikachu that wear unique costumes. While little details about the game’s central region are available, the first look teases jungles, beaches, lava areas, and the wide open sea.
Pokémon Pokopia, the latest game in the franchise, is available now on Nintendo Switch 2 for $69.99 digitally and physically as a Game-Key Card title. Final Weapon reviewed Pokémon Pokopia and gave it a 4.5/5, noting that the game “shattered” expectations: “Whether that time be spent looking for artifacts, decorating your islands, or even meeting new Pokémon, there’s something for everyone to enjoy here.”
