Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve Developers Still Investigating Crashing Issues on PC

An "Async Compute" related issue.

Published:

Following the release of update 1.01.002, the developers of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve at Project Aces confirmed that they’re still investigating crashing issues for the PC version. The developers are preparing for a permanent fix to these crashing issues, which will be released in an upcoming update for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.

According to Project Aces, an “asynchronous computation” affects game stability on certain GPU configurations. There’s a workaround with the “Async Compute” option in the PC version, which can be enabled or disabled. The option is grayed out on GPUs that aren’t suitable for Async Compute.

Project Aces explained the current circumstances with the PC version on Steam:

We would like to provide an update on our ongoing investigation into the crashes occurring during gameplay.

We are currently investigating multiple potential causes and working on fixes to achieve a permanent resolution to these crashes.

During this investigation, we have identified cases where asynchronous computation may affect game stability on certain GPU configurations. In response, the following graphics option has been added in the latest patch (Ver. 1.01.002):

      • Added an option that allows players with GPUs suitable for Async Compute to enable or disable Async Compute from the SYSTEM menu (Steam® version).

Please note that this option will be grayed out and unavailable on GPUs that are not suitable for Async Compute.

Players experiencing crashes may see improvements by changing this setting to OFF.

At the same time, we continue to investigate and address multiple other causes of crashes. We remain committed to improving stability and resolving these issues as quickly as possible.

We sincerely apologize for the prolonged inconvenience caused by these crashes. We will continue our efforts to provide a more stable gameplay experience and thank you for your continued patience and support.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launched on October 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Final Weapon previously reviewed Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and gave it a 4.5/5 score, making it one of our highest-rated games of the year.
