It’s no secret that I was incredibly disappointed with the Belkin Travel Case for Nintendo Switch 2. I picked one up right at launch and was greeted with a case that didn’t fit the console, crooked zippers, and a slight give to the outer shell, which left me frustrated with the potential more than anything.
Fast forward seven months, and Belkin has released the new Charging Case Pro for Nintendo Switch 2. I recently had the opportunity to test this brand-new case, and I am so thrilled to say Belkin has nailed it with this one. I’ve thoroughly tested this across three weeks, including multiple trips, and I am immensely satisfied thus far. If you’re on the hunt for a durable, rigid case that offers a charging solution, it’s hard to beat the Charging Case Pro right now.
Built to Last
Right from the get-go, picking up the Charging Case Pro feels much sturdier and heavier than other Belkin Switch 2 cases. The top half of the shell has a little give, yet it’s sturdy enough that I have no issue putting it into any bag without issues. The bottom is rock solid, with no flex whatsoever.
A sturdy handle sits at the top, alongside a pair of very sturdy zippers that have a nice, premium feel. There were some issues with the Belkin Travel Case where the zipper stitching was warped, but that is not present here. The entire zipper line sits level with the opening in the case.
Inside, you’ll find a microfiber-like soft material that protects all sides of your console. Like Belkin’s other Switch 2 cases, the top half has a mesh compartment where you can store Joy-Con straps or even an extra pair of Joy-Con 2. There’s also a pocket for an Apple AirTag, which is protected with its own hidden soft compartment. Not everyone will use this, but as an iPhone and AirTag user, this is much appreciated.
I appreciate the continued space for game cards as well. Similar to other Switch and Switch cases, a small flap protects the screen of the device, featuring elastic slots to hold up to 12 game cards. I’m someone who has a huge physical collection, so most of my games tend to be in that format. It’s essential to have a protected, standalone space for cartridges, and 12 feels like enough for most.
Protecting your console is the most important role of any case. I had numerous issues with this with the Belkin Travel Case, but the Charging Case Pro fits the Nintendo Switch 2 perfectly, providing a great amount of protection. Belkin passes with stride, and the features here make this case all the more enticing. However, it’s the built-in power bank that makes the Charging Case Pro worth your while.
Charge Up!
The big star of the show for the Charging Case Pro is, of course, the charging block that sits on the bottom half of the case. This battery bank has a 10,000mAh capacity, enough to recharge the Switch 2 and then some, which is perfect for bus rides, airplane trips, and more. During my testing, I averaged around 1.5-2 Switch 2 charges per cycle. Belkin’s design of this battery bank is completely customized for this case and the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s long and flat, with a built-in stand that allows you to play your Switch 2 in tabletop mode.
By far, my favorite aspect of this case is the convenience built in. The battery bank has a screen attached to the bottom that actually appears on the outside of the case. There’s a button you can press to see the battery percentage, and you can recharge it while the case is zipped up and closed, thanks to the external-facing USB-C port. I’m a big fan of this feature, as it allows you to keep the console inside the case without needing to take it out and inconveniently recharge the battery bank. Just recharge the battery, and you can keep charging your Switch 2 inside.
Even then, there’s more convenience beyond this. While you can choose to lift up the stand and play inside the case, the battery is attached with magnets, so you can remove it and place it on any surface if you wish. Small rubber feet are built onto the bottom of the power bank, so I had no concerns on that getting scuffed up from a hard surface. I tested the Charging Case Pro, both playing inside the case and outside of it. Overall, convenience is key, and the ability to play how you want while charging your console is a godsend.
Admittedly, I was slightly concerned about heat dissipation when charging the console with the case closed, but I didn’t find it to be an issue throughout my testing. Things can get slightly warm, yet it never reached a point where I had concern. It helps that the power bank shuts off power flow once the Switch 2 is charged.
One long-term concern I do have involves how the power bank connects to the Switch 2. Belkin makes use of the two indented holes on the bottom near the USB-C charging port for added stability, but this can wear against the console when pulling it off the power bank. As seen above, I have seen a few marks from the act of lifting and pulling away the Switch 2 from the power bank, but they are very minor at this time. However, it is something worth watching in the long run.
A Fantastic Case Option
Overall, I am very satisfied with the Belkin Charging Case Pro for Nintendo Switch 2. This is a premium product, offering everything you need to charge your console, store your games and accessories, and most importantly, protect it. I feel very comfortable throwing this case into a backpack, overnight bag, or even suitcase without any concern for my Switch 2.
The case itself has a great design with a soft interior and sturdy outer shell. I’m a big fan of the small metal finish on the case that surrounds the screen, which just slots into place when you insert the power bank. The convenience offered by the power bank is really what sets this case apart, as you can charge it inside the case and take it in and out as you wish. I do have some small concerns about potential wear with the raised bumps that sit inside the Switch 2 when charging, but I can’t imagine they will cause any issues after weeks of using this case.
If you already have a reliable case that you like, I don’t think the Belkin Charging Case Pro is for you. The $99.99 price point is a big ask, and chances are you don’t want to shell out that much money on a new case just to charge internally. Some might, though, and if your case does not have a power bank or space for one, this is a great option. New Nintendo Switch 2 owners who are willing to spend a little for a premium all-in-one solution should look no further, though. It’s hard to imagine you’ll find a more convenient and premium charging case in the market.
