PlayStation Network is Finally Going Back Online After Major Outage (UPDATED)

One of the biggest outages since the 2011 hack.

PlayStation Network is slowly starting to come back online after a recent outage. The outage lasted for over 18 hours. At the moment, it is unknown whether the outage is due to a hack, a DDOS attack, emergency maintenance, or an internal error from Sony.

Services such as account management, online multiplayer, the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Direct, and more were unavailable. According to the status website, Sony began to track the outage at 7:00 p.m. PST on February 7. These services has since come back online.

Update: After nearly 24 hours, PlayStation confirmed that PSN services are back online:

This was one of the longest downtime periods for PSN since the 2011 hack, which lasted for twenty-three days. Even as these services return to stability, Sony has still not confirmed the full details of the outage. They also have not yet stated if any personal information, such as credit cards, passwords, and other personal information, has been compromised.

Update #2: PlayStation has released another update, stating that network services have “fully recovered from an operational issue.” To compensate, PlayStation will offer PlayStation Plus owners five extra days of service at no additional cost:

Recently, Sony announced that a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Yōtei, will release in 2025. The sequel will take place almost 400 years after the original, in the year 1603. The setting is near the Japanese mountain Mount Yōtei. Further, it will focus on Atsu, a new Ghost carrying on the legacy of her predecessor, Jin Sakai. The trailer briefly hints at Atsu’s capabilities, including a gun and a trademark katana.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is also set to release in 2025 for PlayStation 5. On February 5, Hideo Kojima shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s in the editing booth for the first time in over a year to work on a new trailer. One of the few images of a new trailer includes the iconic “A Hideo Kojima Game” tagline. This trailer is likely for a new look at the upcoming game.
