As of December 29, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has passed $100 million in North America. It made 62 million in its opening weekend, meaning it earned double its revenue after just one week. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continues to beat Mufasa: The Lion King in the domestic box office, despite the latter’s brief success on Christmas.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is available now in theaters. The film features Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Jim Carry as Dr. Ivo and Gerald Robotnik, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 takes the series to its greatest heights yet as it includes higher stakes, bigger fights, and more homages to the broader Sonic franchise than ever before.
Further, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also features several teases for the future of the franchise. According to the producer Jeff Fowler, the film continues the “tradition set by the previous two films,” and will “set the stage for a potential fourth movie to introduce another video game character after Tails and now Shadow.” Both after-credits scenes hint at further adaptations of beloved games in the franchise. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will release in theaters in 2027.
In North America, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will likely continue to earn more in the box office after its recent $100 million milestone. The film is available to watch now in theaters. Further, the most recent game in the franchise, Sonic X Shadow Generations is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
