The story of Shenmue is “far from over” according to a new press release from ININ Games, implying that the series will continue with a new entry. The publisher notes that upcoming announcements will unveil their vision for “the next phase of Shenmue’s legacy.”
It’s worth noting that there’s no confirmation of Shenmue IV, but ININ Games’ comments on the story and upcoming announcements imply that the series will continue. At the very least, new physical editions of Shenmue III could release, along with a potential Nintendo Switch version or current generation port/upgrade.
“We at ININ Games are honored to carry the Shenmue torch forward during such a significant moment in the series’ history,” the press release reads. “As we reflect on two decades of innovation and passion, we remain dedicated to preserving and sharing the journey of Ryo Hazuki with both long-time fans and newcomers.”
ININ Games continued, “With this transfer, the story of Shenmue is far from over. We have exciting plans to celebrate these anniversaries, ensuring that this beloved series continues to thrive and inspire. Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements as we unveil our vision for the next phase of Shenmue’s legacy.”
