In a new interview with Bloomberg, Phil Spencer spoke more about Xbox‘s future, which includes a new handheld console. A few handheld prototypes have been made, but the finished product is “still a few years out.” Additionally, he also stated that they are looking at other acquisitions of developers around the world. This comes almost a year after Microsoft acquired Activision/Blizzard.
He also stated that there are no limitations in what Xbox games will come to PlayStation. This likely means that the previously rumored Halo reboot could release on the PlayStation 5. Xbox will likely confirm more details about their future games in the coming months and years.
Over the last few months, several major companies have laid off hundreds, if not thousands, of workers from across their entire gaming division. Examples include Microsoft, Bungie, Embracer Group, Behaviour Interactive, Riot Games, Sega, Sony, EA, and more. It also includes Take-Two, Square Enix, and Ouka Studios. In particular, Xbox has laid off more than 2,500 employees over the last year. The amount of layoffs across the industry will likely increase as the year continues.
Xbox’s next game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, will release on December 9 for Xbox and PC. It will later release on PlayStation 5 next year. The Steam page describes Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as follows:
Uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them – Indiana Jones.
